Healing Strategies

Figured this warrented a topic since according to EJ and some raid talk we need to maximize our dps, which is done by going in with less healers.

The last few Gruul fights we tightened up our healing by having the priests throwing out GH3 heals on sinc. I can't remember but I dont think that all main tank healers were in the same grp so trying to spread out heals so they arent landing the same time was harder then they should be. I know I was able to not cast the same time as Sajier and Wintrow because they were in the same grp, which helped alot.

What feedback do the other healers have so we can maximize our heals and allow for less healers in the raid grp and more dmg?

Thanks everyone....

Re: Healing Strategies

Pot Pot Pot and when you don't Pot use a Healthstone. Priests with Lightwell and proper lightwell discipline would also help.

DPS should be BYOH at all times so the healers can save their mana for keeping the tank up and if you're healing you should be using fast heals that are perferably instant so you aren't wasting DPS bandaging. The cheapest and easiest to get would be the [Red Ogre Brew] from Ogri'a for 2 [Apexis Shard] at Honored Rep. Since you get 15 shards per daily and there are 4 daily quests in the area (bombing, wrangling, simon says, and demon slaying) this means you can stock up on them and [Blue Ogre Brew] quickly and in large numbers. Always pop a potion if you're under around 1.5k hp so you can hover close to full and start burning that pot cooldown. If you're under around 2.5k from a bad shatter then you should pop your [Master Healthstone] instead of bandaging. Bandage should be something of last resort since you'll lose several seconds of DPS bringing your health back up.

If there's a Lightwell then people should practice Lightwell Discipline and prioritize its use at all times. A lightwell provides a HEAL OVER TIME that brings back 2361 health over 6 seconds. That means you click it ONCE AND ONLY ONCE. It may seem like I'm over emphasising somethings, but if I had a gold for every time someone spam clicked all the charges I'd be able to outfit every member of the guild with epic flying mounts and still call it chump change. It will stay active for 3 minutes and has a 6 minute cooldown. After you click the lightwell you will recieve 3 ticks of healing every 2 seconds if you do not take damage (no standing under a cave in to click it) so the best time to use it would be after a shatter. When you drop the lightwell is something worth discussing since its 3 min duration with 6 min cooldown means you may only get 1 lightwell and it'll only last 3 shatters unless its used by 5 people.

The only other healing strategy I can think of would be switching Enya (Ricca ^_^) to a tree/lifebloom setup as suggested by EJ. It is, by far, the best heal in the game if used properly.

With theorycrafting the proper way to use lifebloom would be to prioritize healing the tank and just refresh lifebloom every 5 seconds. When you hit 3 stacks you will be healing the tank for 117 per second for 819 every 7 seconds not counting +healing. Lifebloom gets 46% of your healing to both the HoT portion and the Burst portion so if the base is 273 then with +1000 healing you're getting 733 HoT per stack for 104 healing per second at 1 stack, 209 healing per second at 2 stacks, and 314 healing per second at 3 stacks. This does not include the ToL Druid's +25% of spirit healing buff to group, the additional 20% +healing from the 5/5 Emp Rejuv talent, or the +10% affect from 5/5 Gift of Nature talent.

To just make all the math easier:
In ToL with her current +healing (roughly 1000) and Spirit (449 buffed). Lifebloom will give a HoT of 1072.55 over 7 seconds per stack (153.2 per tick per second with 459.66 per tick at 3 stacks) and a burst of 1432 at the end regardless of the stacks for 176 mana per cast. 176 mana for 4649.65 healing over 7 seconds is a LOT of healing for very little mana.

Oddly enough Armory has Enya spending only 58 of her 61 talent points. I'd suggest dumping the last 3 in the Living Spirit talent to get +15% spirit to make you all that much more powerful. ^_^

Re: Healing Strategies

Lots of good advice there.

For mana users, I'd highly recommend bringing some [Super Rejuvenation Potion] to use after getting caught in a shatter. If you have to blow your potion cooldown, you might as well get both health and mana back at once. I can make these for anyone who provides mats ([Mana Thistle]x2, [Netherbloom]x1, [Dreaming Glory]x1, [Imbued Vial]x1). However, I'm not potion specced, and I believe I saw at least one potion-specced alchy in guild that knows this recipe also.

Re: Healing Strategies

I second Gnopaine's thoughts on the Super Rejuv pots. I'll have to scrounge up some herbs on my alt. I know Hion's a pot specialist though not sure if he as that recipe.

The other night was the first time in forever that I can remember actually taking a Health pot. I always carry 5 around but my timer's always been saved for mana pots. But those Super Rejuvs would definitely be better.

As far as bandaging - the AOE silence is a good time to do it for us casters if we can afford to wait until then. Obviously if you're in a dire situation its better to bandage or pot or use a HS. I think that probably goes without saying.

As far as group makeup we had a SP in group 1 the other night since we had 3. On nights that we have 3 SPs would it make more sense to throw the 3rd one into a damage caster group with Val and 3 mages? You wouldn't get the VE on the tank then, but I would guess the trickle of health from VE would be more effective on the caster group. I know I wasn't really having any mana issues in my group (of course I had my own VT plus multiple spellsurges), but I'm not sure if the mages and Val were. If so then the VT coming back to them would help too. That's not even counting the bonus crit that the SP would get. Casters would still have to drop pots and bandage up on occasion, but it may be a pretty effective way to keep some minor healing coming into them as well.
