Tips and Tricks for TeamSpeak 3...

Alright so |TG| is now on TS3, and I don't know about the rest of you, but I've had a heck of a time learning about all the new features that TS3 has to offer. So in short what advice can you of the |TG| community offer to help those new to TeamSpeak 3 as well as |TG|?

    First off: Push to Talk

During install TeamSpeak 3 asked you to create a 'push to talk' button, however the current installer does not activate the push to talk feature. To do this go to [ Settings ] -> [ Options ] -> and then [ Capture ]. When here select the radio button to turn on the push to talk option.

    Secondly: Text to Speech

TS3 offers the ability to 'read' off names of channels as well as people in the channel. This option take a little to set up, but is really nice for those who want to know what is going on in channel.

To use this feature first and foremost go to [ Self ] -> [ Set Phonetic Nickname ] This will allow you to create/adjust a custom Nickname to be 'read aloud' when in TeamSpeak. In short instead of TS reading your default nickname it allows you to simply things.

For example "|TG-55| DrakenViator" my default Nickname is read by TeamSpeak as "Vertical Line, T G - 55, Vertical Line, Dray ken Vi eh tor" So to make thing easier on the ears (and so that TeamSpeak will pronounce my name right) I used the Phonetic Nickname as 'Drawken'*, which is still a little off but closer then 'Dray ken'.

Once your Phonetic Nickname is in place: [ Settings ] -> [ Options ] -> and then [ Notifications ] use the [ Sound Pack ] drop down menu at the top to either deactivate all sound notifications or as I would suggest (and the objective of this lengthy narrative) the 'Default test to Speech'

When you first turn Text to Speech on, you will receive notifications from almost every action taken on the server, for a small server not a big deal, but for |TG| this will cause a head ache fast so I would recomend trimming the fat a little bit. I would recomend going through the expanding lists and deselecting any option that does not say 'current channel' or 'you' in the descripter.

*For the record it is Dur-ra-kin 'Dur' as in 'Duracell', 'Ra' as in the Egyptian god, and 'kin' as in friends and family...

So Smachin just pointed out another cool feature I didn't know about...

You can set individual volume levels for everyone in team speak. To do this right click on a persons name and select [ Change Volume ]

So for those who tend to be a little quiet you can up their setting and for those who talk to much... Well you can mute them.

EDIT: Avatars... [Self] -> [Set Avatar]

What does it do? Well if you click on the name of someone who has an Avatar set in TeamSpeak, you'll see

Re: Tips and Tricks for TeamSpeak 3...

I added this as a sticky, since it is such a major topic right now. I think we are going to do a big inclusive TS3 thread, so for now lets collect all we can about TS to make the final thread better. So all the tips and tricks you learn, or cool links you find, please post them!

For me today, I had heard a while back that you were going to be able to skin TS3, and lots of people have already gotten started. I looked at how to do it, and turns out it's a bit harder than I had hoped, as it is all coding, kind of CSS it looks like. Over my head for sure, but not for someone that kind of understands HTML it looks like. So I'm going to go ahead and put a call out to all the TG code monkeys (a term of endearment, honest ) to please look into it and see if you understand it. And then see if you can give the TG community a skin that will kind of match the forums once we get the theme set in the next few days. Good luck.

Here is the link, and there is a sticky that offers all the details:
    http://forum.teamspeak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=112

Below are just a few to show what you can do, and remember these are very early ones since they were all done within the last month.

If you are having problems setting up your hotkey for push to talk, you might be experiencing a known TS3 bug. Disconnect any USB controllers (joysticks) then attempt to set you hotkey. Once the hotkey has been accepted, you can then reconnect your joysticks!

Member PM07SNV just posted this in the BF:BC2 forums:
    BC2 TS3 Skin

Looks a lot better for a quick and easy style change till we get something long term for TG.

Re: Tips and Tricks for TeamSpeak 3...

I've changed it again. I have a huge screen so moved the image lower so the channel text doesn't cover it so much.

Who is doing a TG skin? I can knock up some ideas..

Re: Tips and Tricks for TeamSpeak 3...

Can anyone figure out how to get it to join subchannels properly via command line?

    Code:
    START /d "C:\Program Files\TeamSpeak 3 Client" ts3client_win64.exe "ts3server://74.52.1.234?port=9987&nickname=|TG-X| A_Grounded_Pilot&channel=In-House Squad Channels&subchannel=10th Tactical Guard"
That drops me in the IHS main channel. I've tried other main/subchannel combinations as well, but no dice. Any ideas?

Re: Tips and Tricks for TeamSpeak 3...

You don't need to do it that way anymore. I think I tried, but then found that you can specify a default channel in the bookmarks area. Select connection, if you have 1, if not create it. Click on More and there is a button to make current channle default. My shortcut looks like this only:

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeamSpeak 3 Client\ts3client_win32.exe" ts3 server://74.52.1.234/?port=9987&nickname=|TG-SC| PM.. <BF Admin>
Maybe try with a forward slash, similarly to how the bookmarks shows the channels..

    In-House Squad Channels/101st Siege Corps
EDIT: Why am I using 32-bit client?? D'oh!!

Re: Tips and Tricks for TeamSpeak 3...

I dont know about you, but every time I join a channel all of the 3D audio (voice, etc) comes from my left headset only, and it is that was as well if I click the "center all" button. The only way I have managed to change it so far is to create a small radius and click the "all around me" button and even then I have to change it every time I enter a channal, and anyone who joins after me gets reset to the center. Is there a way when I can make it so the 3D audio defaults to "all around me" instead of "center all"?
