    Re: Ces 2011 !!!!

Alright, I've been waiting to post my final bits on CES till all the sites finished posting articles, so now it's time for the mega mega grand finish.

I'll break this up into a few posts by topic. First up is a round up of round ups if you will

Best of CES 2011 - Engadget goes through and looks at the best of each category.

Tablets at CES 2011: Honeycomb, Windows 7, and all the rest - Engadget put together a chart of all the tablets from the show. When you see how long it is, you will

I am extremely impressed with the CES coverage from OverclockersClub.com. When you go to this link and scroll to the bottom, you'll see there is 33 pages of coverage showing all the stuff computer users will want to see. They don't cover all the phones, TVs, etc like CNET and Engadget. Really suggest you look though some:

    CES 2011 Coverage

I will be looking more in depth at some of the things covered there in a later post.

HotHardware has 4 pages of coverage:
The Hottest Products of CES 2011

Worst Products Of CES 2011: Weird New Tech From The Consumer Electronics Show

Weird Products From CES 2011: The Strangest Gadgets At The Consumer Electronics Show

    LG's CES 2011 booth tour

CES: Motorola Xoom wins Best of Show. Here's why.

I like stats, and Engadget threw together this:
Engadget has left the building: this was CES 2011

    My fav. numbers:
Number of posts: approx. 720 (January 3rd to 9th; up 14 percent over 2010)
Time spent sleeping, per editor per 24-hour cycle: 3 hours (down 14 percent over 2010)

And for those of you looking for less tech, more feminine stuff from CES, you get

    CES 2011: The Booth Babes

Who knew Gigibyte needed babes to sell gaming motherboards?!?

Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at.

    Re: Ces 2011 !!!!

Alright, now to finish up the Home Theater category from CES

It looks like at least 3 makers are going to be selling super widescreen (21:9 ratio) sets here this year.

Philips bringing ultrawidescreen TV, wireless Blu-ray player, apps and eventually Android TV to USA

JVC shows off prototype 50-inch 21:9 full HD 3D TV, says it could hit US later this year

Vizio CES hands-on with ultrawidescreen TV, passive 3DTV, OnLive and Android clock radios

    Other news:
Windows 7 Media Center embedded TV hands-on

The SlingPlayer coming to the Google TV

I have to say, Samsung is looking like my top choice for the 55" I'll be buying in a few months. Here's why:

Samsung D8000 TV at CES 2011 - Which first look review

    And
Tested @ CES: Samsung LED D8000 Series TV

    And

Samsung Smart Touch Remote and Smart TV hands-on

Though LG's sets look really good as well:

LG's 2011 TV line up at CES

Though these look they belong on the set for Stargate:
    CES: LG's otherworldly '3D' speakers

    And finally:
    CES: 2011 TVs wrap-up

Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at.

    Re: Ces 2011 !!!!

Now for a quick look at some gadgets.

CES: Mouse and keyboard control coming to Xbox 360 -Says they already have a version for the PS3. Not bad for $60. Though considering how much MS talks up about how PC like the Xbox is to develop for, you would think it would be just plug and play without an add on device.

I've been looking at sports/action video cameras lately, like the GoPro. This is a Cnet video of one called the Contour GPS HD. Looks pretty interesting.
    http://cnettv.cnet.com/contour-gps-h...-50098466.html
While on the subject, anyone else out there in TG land have a GoPro or other?

Hauppauge debuts Broadway live TV streamer for iPhones and iPads, WinTV-Aero-m receiver for PCs

The Clearest Pictures of the Sony PlayStation Phone - can't believe they didn't mention this at CES, considering how horrible the leaks are on this thing.

I broke down last week and grabbed the offical remote for my PS3 while Amazon had it on sale for $15, but I might should have waited on this:

Snakebyte PlayStation 3 remote touts IR and Bluetooth, $50 price tag
    and
Snakebyte Bluetooth/IR Remote For PS3 Announced At CES

SCT iTSX lets you tune your car from your iPad (video) - I could have some fun playing with this

I really didn't even bother trying to learn and keep up with all the cell phone news from the show, but this will help everyone catch up:
New cell phones from CES 2011 (photos)

I am so in love with Audi the last couple of years. Something about those LED headlights and just the powerful look of their designs has me hooked. And with these new e-tron models, it's even harder not to go sell a kidney to afford one.....

Audi R8 e-tron wows the crowd

I'll be back later with the massive computer tech roundup.

    Re: Ces 2011 !!!!

All right, I'm back to finish this coverage up.
I had planned to finish it last week, but woke up not feeling good Friday, and by the end of work I was feeling down for the count. Spent what was supposed to be a great 3 day weekend in bed, and finally went back to work on Wed.

But we are heading into a huge post (probably more than one) showing off all the latest and greatest in computer tech we can look forward to in 2011.

For starters, I figured we would look at just some of the new headsets shown at CES.
Seems like there are more and more to choose from, and the prices seem to keep going up. Also, wireless is getting to be a major option.

    First up is Turtle Beach:

Beauty Is In The Ear Of The Beholder With Turtle Beach's New Line-up
    and
Turtle Beach Earforce PX5 gaming headset preview

    Next up is Creative Labs:
Creative Labs Announces Sound Blaster Tactic3D Omega Gaming Headset
and you can check out a video look here on Cnet:
    http://cnettv.cnet.com/creative-soun...-50098472.html

From SteelSeries we have the 7XB:
SteelSeries 7XB Wireless Gaming Headset announced at CES

And from Asus's Republic of Gamers series:
ASUS Intros ROG Vulcan ANC Gaming Headset

Finally, if you just want something that sounds good but with a low price and no mic, looks like these might work:
CES 2011 Ė Wicked Audio Brings Forth New 3D and Helix Series Headphones

Now to look at the latest in drool worthy monitors.......

Cnet did a good write-up on the state of the market:
CES: Monitors finally showing some progress

Check out the 2nd pic in the article showing off angle:
    CES: LG's 'Super'-angled IPS6

    Also from LG:

LG releases the E2370V gaming monitor
    and
CES: LG's IPS monitor for gamers

So pretty much the big deal here is this is an ISP monitor (usually the best monitor tech there is) but with a lower input lag making it a dream screen for gamers.
But then they go and give it a x1080rez. WHY

    And from Sammy:
CES: Samsung delivers LED monitor re-up

Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at.

    Re: Ces 2011 !!!!

Up next we can take a look at some cool mice and pc controllers.

A couple of mice were announced that I found really interesting.
One is the Microsoft Touch Mouse, and Engadget has a great hands on video:
Microsoft Touch Mouse: the history and hands-on

From LG, a mouse I actually kind of shrugged at, till I watched the video and thought about how this could be useful in some business and school classes. And again, Engadget has a good hands on video:
    LG LSM-100 Scanner Mouse hands-on
I was just really surprised at how easy it was to use, and you can save the scan in different formats.

Up next we have a new PC gaming controller from Razer:

It is kind of like the Wii remote. The links below will give you a better idea of it, including a video:
CES 2011: Razer's upcoming PC game motion controller to get custom version of Portal 2
    and
CES 2011: Razer announces PC motion controller

The video shows it playing all kinds of games including FPS like Bad Company 2. I don't know what to think right now. It looks like the player had decent control, but I don't know if it was as precise as a mouse would offer. It would be fun to play Portal with though.

    Re: Ces 2011 !!!!

For the rest of the PC parts there is a lot to look at. I read through more than 50 articles that looked at what a certain brand had to show and picked some of the best. If you see something that catches your eye, like a new case, a quick google will probably turn up more info from another source.

First up is Bigfoot Networks. Those that keep up with the forum may remember we had a thread on the subject almost exactly a year ago this week:
    Anyone use Xeno Lag Killer?
It is a good short read considering we had a Bigfoot company man posting in the thread.

But considering ThinkComputers.com had this to say:
Killer NIC maker Bigfoot Networks is having a really, really big week at CES 2011.
The company just announced a lot of new partnerships including Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. There will soon be motherboards with built in Killer NIC:
    CES 2011: Bigfoot Networks
    and
Bigfoot Networks intros Killer E2100-powered motherboards from ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte

I'm looking forward to seeing some detailed reviews and will keep TG posted.

Speaking of MSI, HardwareCanucks.com had a look at what the future holds:
CES 2011: MSI Demos New AM3+ Big Bang Conqueror & Lightning GPUs
There has been a lot of talk about how good AMD's Bulldozer line is going to be, and MSI is getting ready for them with AM3+ boards. They also look at their new P67 boards and just wait till you see all the bells and whistles on their new Big Band Marshall motherboard, shown below:

While on the subject of next gen CPUs, we already have thread about Intel's just released Sandy Bridge line and how awesome they are. But now Engadget has word of what to look for next (hint: it's called Ivy Bridge) :
Intel's next CPU refresh will include DirectX 11 graphics support

Thinkcomputers.com had a good look at some of the other companies offerings:
CES 2011: Kingston, Zalman & Zotac (check out the Zalman coolers)
    and
CES 2011: Gigabyte Press Conference (check out the motherboards)

Corsair had a ton of new stuff at the show, and all of it looked good.
    For instance:

Corsair Announces Obsidian 650D Mid-Tower Case (looks hot for an MSRP of $199)
and how about a new white version of their Graphite 600

Check out more (notice they have multiple pages for each article):
    Corsair at CES 2011
    and
    CES 2011: Corsair Press Event
    and
CES 2011: Hands on With Corsairís New Products

They also had new headphones and a new version of their easy to install hydro cooler. The new one is the H60:
    [Corsair] H60 specs officially published

I'll be back later tonight to finish up the show...............

Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at.

    Re: Ces 2011 !!!!

Alrighty then, time to finish up.

Antec had some new cases to show off, and they look really good:

The first pic is the new One Hundred Gamer mid case:
Antec Announces the One Hundred Gamer ATX-Mid Tower Chassis
That link has a video look, and it is pretty impressive when you see the MSRP is only $80. I still love my Antec P182, but I'd like to get my hands on one of those to really test it. I'll be watching for some reviews.

The 2nd pic is the new Six Hundred V2:
Antec Celebrates 25th Anniversary, Unveils Six Hundred V2 Computer Chassis
That is a 200mm fan in the top, and the case is designed for gamers.
Not bad for msrp of $110.

Next up is a new case from Thermaltake:

If you remember Thermaltake had one of the coolest and most talked about cases last year called the Level 10. This new one called the Level 10 GT is a more realistic option for most people with an msrp of about $269. Lots of good details and pics at the link:
CES 2011: Thermaltake Makes Level 10 for the Masses

They also take a look at some of the other stuff Thermaltake had at the show. Everything from coolers to new mice, keyboards, and headphones.

    A couple of random things:

Victorinox Slim and Slim Duo set to debut
    and
InfiniTV 4 USB CableCARD tuner hands-on

I was really disappointed in Intel not even mentioning Gen3 SSD, but there was a lot from other vendors.
Warning, the video in this next link may cause you to become insanely angry at your current HHD and start fantasizing about destroying it just so you can justify buying a new Micron c400.
    CES 2011: Micron C400 256GB 25nm SSD Speed Demo
Just to pour salt on your wounds:
CES 2011: Corsair Performance Series 3 SSD Benchmarks

Along with that OCZ announced what I think is some HUGE news last week:
OCZ quits DRAM business to focus on super-speedy SSDs
That is some down news for gamers here that build their own systems and help others upgrade. OCZ made good RAM with very good prices, so loosing them will limit options. But can't wait to see more SSD on the market to help bring prices down.

The final piece I wanted to mention is actually an article I found this morning on the new Asus Eee Slate. I really think it is worth watching the short video if you are even remotely thinking about a tablet.
Asus Eee Slate EP121 unboxed by Asus
I am actually really impressed. For this to be a first gen, it blows the Ipad away if you want the equivalent of a PC but in a tablet. I really can't see a big market for netbooks for much longer once more tablets like this come out.
At the end of the video he mentions some future videos where they will actually look at the Slate in use using things like Photoshop.
    Here is that video:
Official ASUS Eee Slate EP121 Demo 1080p
Having just watched that 2nd video, I have to say it looks like something I would much rather have than an Ipad. Can't wait to try it out in person.

Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at.

    -Carlos A. Urbizo-
