Re: Monster Cables, Monster Ripoff: 80% Markups

All cables and accessories are marked up out the ass... as a former BBY tech bench person, I can confirm.... don't get me started on network cabling...

Re: Monster Cables, Monster Ripoff: 80% Markups

I work in a big highstreet electrical store here in the UK, and again, we dont care what TV/Console we sell, as long as we sell the Belkin leads. They cost up to £80 (near $160), and as you can imagine, apart from a supposed better quality pic, there is no difference, though you do get a lifetime warranty. Most customers will take the cheaper £20 version though and i have never heard of one breaking. We do get a major bolloking from management though if we dont sell the expensive leads, they are over 60% markup here.

Re: Monster Cables, Monster Ripoff: 80% Markups

If the cables are the same thickness and the connectors are good, there shouldn't be a difference. Electrons are moving through the cables if they have a monster or an angel label on them.

You're confusing a cable with a wire. Cables can have different numbers of wires, and so different numbers of electrons flowing on them, not to mention different connectors and different conductors.

You would be correct if you were talking about a couple of wires that were similarly constructed.

Here is a new update to this story:
http://consumerist.com/362926/do-coa...monster-cables

They tested people which sounded better, monster cables or some coat hangers stretched out to make a wire, and people couldn't tell.
