Microsoft To Give Students Dev Software For Free

Some news to pass along to any students or soon to be students:

February 18 2008
Microsoft To Give Students Dev Software For Free
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/02/18...ware-for-free/

includes:
Visual Studio Professional Edition, XNA Game Studio, Expression Studio, SQL Server and Windows Server

While looking this stuff up, I also found this:
http://www.microsoft.com/heroeshappe...r/default.mspx

The have a ton of shows all over the country about to happen, and if you go and listen to them talk about how good their software is, you get it for free! I know a lot of people did this when Office 2007 came out, and they were very happy to sit for a few hours and get it for free.

Take a test drive
Come to an event and test drive Windows Server® 2008 operating system, Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008, and Microsoft Visual Studio® 2008.
Meet the experts
Enjoy hands-on labs, face-to-face Q&A sessions with software experts, and other opportunities to interact with development team members.
Bring the products home
Want more? To say thanks for taking part of this exciting launch, you’ll take home a promotional kit with versions of all three products.

Visual Basic gave my mother's boyfriend the worst headache ever. Installed it...wasnt there. Not even in program files, but was taking up HDD space. After a week talking to India he finally seemed to resolve it..

To add to this.... microsoft.com/expert zone -- if you are employed somewhere that sells computer hardware or software, you can do trainings there and get free stuff, games, software, hardware, etc.

I'm not sure if this is supposed to replace MSDNAA or supplement it. Google MSDNAA and your school and you might already be eligible for free MS software. Got my copy of Vista for free and a few other tools that have come in handy for school.

Most of those programs are already available through MSDNAA (at least here at DePaul).
