Re: [Project Unseen University] Rincewind's Magical (liquid) Build Log (with pictures
I would probably do it, just for the added insurance.

the only watercooled setup i ever saw was in a custom home-made lexan case that was shaped like a big ass "X" and it was the coolest thing i ever saw..had glow-wire in every spot of the outline, and the guy had frosted (by media blasting the panels) some panels and blacked out others, and was using all purple LED lighting with some freakish liquid that lit up like the brightest purple/black light sort of color ever..
it was simply amazing..i had pics but have lost them over time..he used to be an avid local LAN guy and brought that thing with him every time..the guy was a true artist..he had his board mounted at the "verticy" (spelling) and had the little tanks in the bottom of the "X's" and it was simply breathtaking..last i saw him was at the CPL in Dallas like 3 years ago or something..the first year they had it at the new Gaylord he did not attend...
anyways..very VERY nice job Rincewind..you are the man!!

That's not a computer...IT'S A SPACE STATION.
Seriously though, amazing job man. I was lost after the kitchen knife, so I don't think water cooling is for a computer n00b like me (Due to this being my 1st build ever, I'm still not even sure if I know how to put the basics into the rig, let alone a water cooling system)
. I think I'll just stick with the fans, also because of the fact that the case I'm planning to get is not nearly as big as yours, and even though it apparently has space for some sort of water cooling system, I don't want it to be cramped up with tubes and pumps everywhere.

Even if it could hold a human, I'm not sure it could hold a SPACE STATION

nuff said.
Could you please write a book Rincewind on how you convinced your wife that you "needed" that?
And going from a P4 + 7600 to that is just insane. No incrimental steps for you, just BAM! there it is.
Very nice build and well thought out.

Re: [Project Unseen University] Rincewind's Magical (liquid) Build Log (with pictures
A little bump for a nine month check-up. The system is running great. I recently dusted her out (with some compressed air and a shop-vac) to remove some dust buildup in the radiator and the PSU.
I have to say I am LOVING the Mountain Mods case. The airflow is outstanding and it will hold-up through years of machine upgrades. I'm also very pleased with the water cooling setup. No leaks, drips or fungus after nine months of outstanding performance. I'm really pleased with my first LC'ing effort

Re: [Project Unseen University] Rincewind's Magical (liquid) Build Log (with pictures
* Important safety information: Don't liquid cool if you take nitrates, often prescribed for chest pain, as this may cause a sudden, unsafe drop in blood pressure. Discuss your general health status with your doctor to ensure that you are healthy enough to engage in liquid cooled activity. If you experience chest pain, nausea, or any other discomforts during liquid cooling, seek immediate medical help. As with any LC system, in the rare event of an erection lasting more than 9 months, seek immediate medical help to avoid long-term injury. In rare instances, men using liquid cooling reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision. It is not possible to determine whether these events are related directly or to other factors. If you experience sudden decrease or loss of vision, stop liquid cooling immediately, and call a doctor right away. If you have prostate problems or high blood pressure for which you take medicines called alpha blockers, your geek friend may start you on a smaller reservoir. liquid cooling does not protect against electronically transmitted diseases, including msblast.exe.

Re: [Project Unseen University] Rincewind's Magical (liquid) Build Log (with pictures
Really neat system. But I'm the type of guy who likes to neatly tuck his case away

I'm trying to get my best friend to get a different cooler for his Core2Quad. He re-used his manually controlled aftermarket fan, and coupled with all the 65mm fans rolling around, it sounds like a dustbuster 24/7
Whereas my system has comparative performance to his (Athlon X2 2.8Ghz vs Core2Quad 2.6) more RAM (4GB vs 3 on a 64 bit OS vs 32) and a RAID setup and is pretty quiet. With the exception of the OC profile that cranks the fan on the 4870 (vs his 8800GTX).
Have to get him to understand that there's coolers out there that can hook up for the juice it needs, yet still use BIOS reporting and throttling.

Amazing. That is much better than porn.
I also have the exact same Zalman fan controller. It's probably the best $45 I ever spent on a controller panel.Acreo Aeneas

Well, if you didn't have the liquid cooling you might have been able to pass on the space heater!
Beautiful.
