Re: Suggestions for NAS Device?
Nothing. And that is exactly the problem with DRM. It's my music, I can play it on whichever of my devices I want to play it on. It's not up to the record companies to assume I'm a criminal in a sort of a preemptive retaliation for the torrenting they assume I will do in the future.
The DRM thing is really a theoretical point though since my music has no DRM and the only music I purchase from iTunes is non-DRMed. Since this is such a pain in the ass I may just set up the remote share with the music and keep the iTunes library local. This would mean that the various copies of the iTunes libraries would never be in synch, playlists and album art would not propagate, etc., but this whole thing is starting to give me a headache .I like the Drobo setup. Anyone use this as a NAS before?

Re: Suggestions for NAS Device?
Critical error. Abort/Retry/Ignore?
It's not your music. You just bought a license to play it. The ownership remains with the record company. (Notably, it does not remain with the artist, who stupidly signed it away for mostly empty promises of fame.) I don't like it. The smarter artists don't either. But the record companies (and, in other media, the movie and TV and software companies) love it. It lets them keep raking in profits on a distribution system that's rapidly becoming obsolete. It's like forcing every car owner to buy their buggy whip. The intellectual property laws need some serious fixing to stop protecting this artificial oligopoly.

Today lifehacker.com has a post about a new program called Mojo, and while it is meant for exchanging over the internet, it works on a home network too. http://lifehacker.com/369747/downloa...rnet-with-mojo Read the comments for more info.
