Speaking of switching, I still need to switch my parent's computers from AVG to Avast. They just ran into the same exact issue where they have to restart their rigs to get updates.

Common sense!, I also shut down my P.C when I am not using it, Avast FTW! Even has a nifty virus scan screen saver!

My computer is ALWAYS on. I restart it every few months due to some program or another needing updating, but other than that it's on 24/7 and being used for something.

I would like to change my vote to avira.

After almost a decade of AVG, I finally tried something else... and avira is faster, smaller, lighter, and more competent. the only gripe is the one pop up per day... but for the added benefits, I can click one extra (x)

That is fine, I know some people have to leave it on for whatever reasons, I did not mean to sound like I was giving out or something.

I use Norton. I know the new version uses barely any of the computer resources at all. Big change from McAfee for me.

    Re: Best Antivirus Program?

For realtime antivirus protection I use AVG, but I'm considering switching to Kapersky. However, for when a virus DOES infiltrate my computer somehow, I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. This gem works as a very effective backup, and managed to take out a very annoying Vundo infection that Spybot and AVG could not.

Avira kicks ass...I was a long time user of Nod32 until Avira outperformed on third party tests and is free.

Although there is a workaround to disallow the pop-ups, one day I clicked on one and went through one of the bonus deals and received a year long premium license gratis for my time

    Re: Best Antivirus Program?

I have been using Avast for almost 4 years. I have three computers running it, and I am very satisfied. I had Norton before this and Avast is "vastly" superior. It is well supported and updated. It is not intrusive. It gets my "Seal" of approval.
