Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
More out today:
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Coming in July with 55nm Goodness
"Some more news has come out today about the upcoming GeForce 9800 GT and when the new GPU will arrive. It seems that the March/April launch is out of the question and July is the new target date. If this holds true that means the card will be on display at Computex in the months ahead. Rumors say that the new and improved GeForce 9800 GT will wage war against AMD's next-generation ATI RV770 powered graphics card.
VR-Zone first revealed Nvidia's plan to shift from 65nm to 55nm to lower costs and we have also told you a series of 55nm based mobile graphics GPUs based on G94b and G96b. Now we learned that the first desktop graphics card to be based on 55nm G92b core will be GeForce 9800 GT and it will be launched in July along with GeForce 9900 series. 9800 GT will support Hybrid Power. Apparently, GeForce 9800 GTS will be OEM only, not for channel."
EDIT:
Also just out is this:
Nvidia GPU Physics Engine Up And Running, Almost
They are taking the failed Ageia physics and getting it to run on 8800 and up gfx. cards.Last edited by Bamboo; 04-14-2008 at 12:52 PM.

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
Nice finds Bamboo. Im really excited to see what ATi can do with this new design. Though a strong nVidia card could fit in my system as well. Either way I love the fact that theres some compition again.

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
Just cross your fingers the recent trend in cards costing less will continue.
The 9800GTX for under $300 is a really good deal if you have an older card, but like most of have said, just not enough to go up from an 8800xx.
I don't want to see the new GTX come back with a starting price of $600 like it used to be.

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
I agree that the current cards are the way of the future for pricing. Sure I love the X2's etc. and may buy one every few years but with the rate of change in cards a high priced card is a bad investment.
As you pointed out in another thread the 9600gt is running the same as a G80 8800GTS! I paid twice the price of that card just over a year ago
Great that the tech is advancing and we can buy it cheap, keep it going.

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
Lots of news to catch up on, but the bottom line is the new Nvidia cards are now slated for July. I can't wait to see how good they are, especially when you look how high the 9800GT is clocked compared to the 8800GT.

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
Good finds. I'm interested to see what the G200 cores will be like. It almost seems like a waste now to get a G92 based card outside of the great prices. Time will tell though.

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
Most excellent. My upgrade timeline for my cpu, mobo, and ram is late summer early fall and video card should be around then or X-mass. By then prices will have dropped and availability will be strong.

Im a little confused though by nvidias cores. They are going to be using a G92 but shrunk down to 55mm and some cards will be a G200 core on 55mm. All the the 99xx will be the G200 and the 98xx will get the die shrink?

I think a lot of what is above is speculation on die size. Will know more in a month at the big tech show around June 4th

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
Very good news. The one thing that seems to holding ATI back is the way that there cards deal with anti aliasing. Hopefully the new cards don't take a huge hit with it enabled.
This is going to be a big summer with both companies gunning for gamers money with new releases

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
So news is really flying out now:
Links:
GT200 to retail for $499
RV770 GDDR5 to sample soon
GT200 is 65nm or 55nm
R770 to launch in the last week of June
Of course a lot can still change like the articles say, and who knows, if Nvidia gets a kink in the nads from ATI, that $499 could become $450 or $399.

Re: Latest news about next gen graf. cards
Ouch $499. Looks like they may be edging back up the price scale. It makes sense I guess, nVidia as of late kind of tripped all over their own feet with card releases and price cutting. I would imagine they are going to straighten things out and stretch their product range out again along with the prices. However the 9800gtx could be found for $280 in some places recently. The new cards better be damn good if the prices are going to be $200 more.
