Head Phones / Mic
After about 5 years of daily use my current head phones died.... the cord has been frayed for over a year, the housings have been cracked for longer... and for the past several months tape has held them together.
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId=11038999 The other day they reached a point beyond repair even a master tapesman like myself. I need to get a new pair of head phones, but I dont want to shell out 90 bucks for em. Does anyone have any suggestions for a high quality set of cans? An integrated mic would be nice, but from what I've seen, everything with an integrated mic is kinda cheap... or at least has no serious reputation for good sound. While I'm no audiophile I got used to the good quality and would loath to step down. Any suggestions?

Re: Head Phones / Mic
Yh, Medusa's are pretty cheap now, but they're still good quality...you can get a pair for just about £30 here, which is very decent. for surround sound those headphones are epic, and I'm thinking about getting them. I just don't wanna waste the ones I have now, because I really do like them, even though they're not amazing quality, they're very good for the price I got them for.

Re: Head Phones / Mic
I'm seeing a large number that are USB head sets... Is there any good reason to even consider a USB head set? Why would someone want to bypass their sound card (Audigy 2... not onboard)

Re: Head Phones / Mic
Yh, I much prefer the jack ones, because they're literally plug-and-play. Just because of the convenience factor really, I prefer the jack ones, but a good USB headset for a good price wouldn't put me off for the USB bit.

Re: Head Phones / Mic
Some software is now able to distinguish between multiple audio record and playback interfaces, so you can have your game play its normal sound from your speakers while your VOIP goes through your headset. I use a Bluetooth Jawbone headset for VOIP and play game sounds through the mobo sound system to my 5.1 speaker setup.

Re: Head Phones / Mic
If you have a sound card you don't want to use a USB headset because it has it's own build-in "sound card". I don't think the quality is as good - and it doesn't do 5.1 surround.

Hurray for home depot. A little bit of plastic epoxy and voila! I wish I had done that all along instead of using tape. My head phones have been saved!
