Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Now Available

Lots of new posts today, but just got back home from an out of town trip, and the news never stopped

Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Now Available

I looked for the portable apps version but it doesn't seem out yet.

Anyone give this a try?

Re: Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Now Available

I've upgraded. A few little interface changes, otherwise I haven't noticed anything real major and was running stable with beta 5 but haven't run into any crashes yet. Might be a little bit faster.

For you RoboForm fans, no updated adapter out yet so RoboForm doesn't work with it at the moment. RoboForm is usually pretty quick so I would imagine they'll have something out tomorrow.

On a positive note, RoboForm now supports RC1. If I had more extensions I would definitely wait but all I really use these days is Forecast Fox and RoboForm.

Just released the portable version of the RC1.
http://portableapps.com/news/2008-05...ortable_3_rc_1

With that you can download and play with the release canadite without installing, and when you are done you can just delete the file.

Re: Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Now Available

Couple things to note before updating:
-You're probably going to lose most of your plugins because they havent been updated and probably wont until a few weeks after the full release. Of all the plugins that I run (IETab, pdfdownload, piclens, router status, webmail notifier, greasemonkey, fasterfox, fireftp, flashgot, dTa, download statusbar) I only have 3 compatible: greasemonkey, IETab, pdfdownload.
-If you use facebook a lot, the new instant messaging application they added crashes after about 30 seconds with RC1. It's stable with beta 5, so I'm not sure what the disconnect is, but it's broke.
-Resizing of fonts not native to the browser can cause compacting.
-Scaling pages (using the ctrl+mousewheel method) can lead to improper button placement/allignment, as well as dropdown menu problems on some pages.

I made the jump too. Once I saw that the delicious plugin is ported that was it. Nice and fast so far.

Re: Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Now Available

A lot of plugins are touting support for Firefox 3 RC1. Even Firebug works. They don't have them uploaded to the official Mozilla site yet but if you check the authors websites they usually have links to FF3

Also I like the address bar, it's even smarter now, it can detect more meta data that I type in my server bar. I can find old web pages just by entering in some key words not in the actual name or website address

Everything is so fast. I get crashes every now and then but it's well worth it

Im too lazy for that crap. If they wont auto update, it means they're not updated in my book.

Re: Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 Now Available

They will auto update. But the Firefox 3 version of Foxmarks is still in beta testing.
Supposed to be released same time as the official FF3 release, which is a couple of weeks.

I upgraded yesterday after remembering that it was scheduled to release "later" this month.

That's what I'm holding out for as well. I can't go anywhere without foxmarks.

Just in case this bothers anyone playing with FF3:
