HALP! Recoverying XP Pro Encrypted files

I bought myself a new HD, installed a fresh copy of XP Pro, and then copied over files from my old HD before wiping it.

When going through my stuff I found several files that I cant open... after thinking about it, I realized that I had used XP to encrypt them on the previous drive.

How the hell can I open them now? Anyone have an XP decrypt utility or some command line magic for me?

IIRC, the encryption key is stored in the old profile.

I wish I had better news, but everything I've read says you're screwed. The encryption is reasonably strong (RSA public key), so the only way you're going to get anything is to give the drive to the NSA and tell them it's full of terrorist secrets.

What about those forensic thumb drives that microsoft is providing to law enforcement... That surely has what is required to defeat windows encryption... Anyone have access or know if the contents have been imaged and floating out and about? -- it may seem like a bit much, but she's hot
