Is the release date for the 4870 and 4850 the same?

Re: ComputeX 2008 news

Sorry to go a bit offtopic but I have a couple of questions that I didnt see in any of the articles.

What are the release date's for the P45 and the GTX280?
Will one GTX280 running crysis/World in Conflict on all high (1280x1024) with around 50FPS with no freezing? (realize this is mostly speculation though)
Is the P45 motherboard still worth it? (review looks good, DD3 ram seems to be a decent performance increase) and can it run SLI?

Thanks.

Re: ComputeX 2008 news

P45 is already out at newegg.com
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...name=Intel+P45
They have 8 boards listed, and over the next week or 2 I am sure that number will go way up. Also, over the next week or 2 lots more tech sites will be doing reviews to help you pick which board you want to buy DesertFox.
I have to say I am really happy with my ASUS, even more now that I am using it's built in Wi-Fi. Didn't think I would ever use it, but not having internet convinced me to give it a try. Loaded the drivers, searched for a signal, and got it up and running.
Also, ASUS is going to have the instant on OS feature soon, and that makes me wish I could buy a new board. I like the idea of pushing the on button and in 3 sec. you are into a Linux OS and can use firefox and a ton of other stuff. No more waiting 60 sec. or more for windows to load up.

GTX280 they are still thinking next week for release, but of course rich folks will be buying up all the stock for the first 2 weeks or so, keeping prices jacked probably.
Good news is the rumor is Nvidia lowered the MSRP on it after realizing ATI has good cards and will undercut them by $50%.

GTX 280 drops to $499
Radeon 4870 to beat 9800GTX
Take this one with a grain of salt, but if it is true, all I can say is WOWOWOWOW
Real HD 4850 tested. So far so good.
Make sure you look at what rez they say is running for each test before you look at the score.

I think 1 GTX280 will run Crysis pretty decent at that rez (pure speculation on my part), but considering the score of the 9800GTX, I think it will. Might not if you are running full on AA and AF, but should run good without it cranked up.

And no, it can not run SLI. It can run Crossfire, if you are using ATI cards, but if you want SLI you will have to go with an Nvidia chipset motherboard. Right now there is really a war going on between Intel and Nvidia, and Nvidia knows that if they license their SLI tech for use on Intel chipsets, they can kiss their own chipset income and sales goodby.
So right now Nvidia is actually getting all cuddly with another chip maker VIA, that is like the underdog of AMD and Intel, but they actually have some good tech coming up.
And the crazy thing is Intel is cuddly with AMD so they can have Crossfire on their chipsets, to compete with Nvidia. Talk about sleeping with the enemy.

Sorry to go offtopic again but

For the P45 I Will be probably be using DD3 ram,
ASUS P5Q3-DELUXE/WIFI-AP ATX LGA775 P45 DDR3 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI SATA WiFi eSATA 1394 Motherboard
That is the one I want, correct?

What about the X48, from the link you posted above with all the motherboard reviews it seems as if the performance increase doesn't really justify the higher price.

I won't be using linux but does instant work for Vista to XP?

Also was reading a couple people talking about DDR3 ram and that there is some DDR3 ram that is slower then DDR2. ( they were saying mostly DDR3-1333 ) is that true?

From the looks of it the P45 will be my best bet as after thinking about it im not really a big fan of SLI since I dont run at really high resolutions.

thanks once again.

Re: ComputeX 2008 news

Really, the only reason to get an X48 board is if you are sure you are going to go with a multi video card setup, since that is the board that has 2 full 16X PCI-E slots. The p45 if I remember correctly has 2 slots, but if you run to cards it drops to 2 8X slots.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I won't be using linux but does instant work for Vista to XP?" If you are talking about the Express Gate feature, I must say I am really excited about that, and dissapointed I can't get it on my motherboard. I actually called ASUS tech support yesterday to ask if they were going to put an update out for my P5K Deluxe Wi-Fi board, and found out that you can't update. The new boards actually have an extra chip soldered on, which has flash memory for the Express Gate.
I did find this video yesterday while searching for info, and really wish I could get it without buying a new motherboard. Video is pretty good.
http://www.splashtop.com/blog/index....der-the-radar/

And yes, some of the lower end DDR3 isn't really that much better than good DDR2, just like when the switch from DDR to DDR2 happened. The DDR3 that 1st came out has very high Latency, and you want low Latency, the lower the better. But of course that costs more.
That board you mentioned above is a good board, I am waiting to see some in depth reviews of it though. Probably some out, just haven't had time to look for them. It does support DDR3-1600.
Here's the link for that RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...600+(PC3+12800)
You can get a 4 gig kit as low as $269 after rebate, which is pretty good compared to how long it took the price of DDR2 to come down.
I am kind of confused why that board has 2 connections and antenna for Wi-Fi. Like I said earlier, never thought I would be using the Wi-Fi on my ASUS motherboard, but it is what allows me to post this right now. I am hoping whoevers network I am on is at work.
