Re: Vista is driving me insane
I agree that something is not adding up here. To have both versions crap out like that. I would try ditching the raid, install with 2gb of ram, be absolutely sure that your BIOS is up to date, the chip set, network card... etc.
Can you confirm that everything is running fine now in XP with the exact same hardware? What ever you do get it done, the server isn't the same without your Southern bell voice ![]()

Re: Vista is driving me insane
Yep..it rocks with XP on it..everything seems to be fine with 4-gigs o ram..
32-bit Vista reported 4 GB, but XP only reports 3.5 GB..weird eh? oh well..Vista can pretty much just rot.. |

Oh, the competent programmers find workarounds. A registry edit here, a JZ-to-JNZ there; one game apparently just requires you open the compressed files and dump the directory structure into place because only the installer bothers to be a putz.

Re: Vista is driving me insane
I was having so may problems with Vista, I decided to go back to XP myself. Definitely NOT regretting it.

Re: Vista is driving me insane
Did you check your RAM? the last Major issues i ever had with Vista was a set of dieing PNYs and once i upgraded and replaced all the old sticks system ran smooth. i would check each of your RAM sticks (problemly with 3rd party software if you can get any) just to rule out the possiblity. also write down the errors and post them so we can help more.
and if you can stand it ask technet they problemly know whats going on. you should also check HCL (hardware compatablity list) to make sure you dont have some piece of equipment that Vista doesn't completely support yet. (i had a nasty old PDA freak out my computer so dont limit it to internal componets).

Re: Vista is driving me insane
See, that's a major problem with Vista though - it is NOT new, I find very few excuses for there to be so many incompatible pieces of equipment.

Re: Vista is driving me insane
Another reason your programs crash could be that you are not running as administrator. Many old programs do stuff only admins should do and then crash if the OS doesn't give them permissions. Try 'run as administrator' on the game starter.
Once something crashes you may have the possibility of checking what caused the crash. Try to get a 'stack dump' or check in the log viewer (event viewer?) for more info.
