That's exactly what I mean by bang for the buck, or sweet spot. There's a point in every hardware lineup at which your dollar isn't buying you as much. I want to stay below that point.

I'm not trying to be rude but you need to clarify your budget next time.
That's why I was pretty specific on wanting to hit the sweet spot. Cutting edge stuff is always priced with an outrageous premium. A gaming rig does NOT require more expensive parts. You had a gaming rig last year that played every game on the market. Does it suddenly not work this year because there are faster video cards out?

Why do you refuse ATI?

I have a 3850 and it performs very well. The drivers seem stable. And it is the best you can get for $100.

Because every time someone tells me that their drivers are OK now, it turns out to be a lie. I've never had a problem with nVidia, and I've had multiple (very expensive) problems with ATI. I'm just not willing to give them any more of my money. They might have the better product right now, but they don't have my trust.

Fair enough.

For the gfx. card, I am also going to have to say the 9600gt is as low as you should go. It is really an amazing card for the price, and you can find a lot of them for under $130 after rebates. And review after review shows that it blows away the 8600, which is a pretty weak card. The 9600GT is actually neck and neck with the 8800GT in many benchmarks.

And here is the very overclocked version of the card Reaper linked to, and it is $129.
That card would probably run better than my 8800GTS 640mb.

Intel Core2Duo i have one and right now all custom computers i build and sell use 1 i have not had a complaint i have not have any failures and every customer has only good to say about them. i would also recommend a quick poke about Pricegrabber.com they are a search engine for products and i always get the best price from them.
