Corsair VX450 watt PSU for 8800GT?

On the my XFX 8800GT box it says that 500W is recommended for the graphics card. But buying a good 500W PSU is very expensive. However I'v found the Corsair VX 450 watt PSU, will this still work for my graphics card and system? At the moment I'v got a Dell 305 watt PSU, which actually works alright, but it could one day damage my system due to lack of power.

Here are my system specs:

2.8Ghz Pentium 4 CPU
3 GB DDR2 RAM
250GB SATA Hard drive
GeForce 8800GT graphics card
1 SATA DVD/RW drive

Thats about it.

Check the amps on the 12v rail for that unit. I suspect it will meet the requirements for that video card which are most likely overestimated anyways.

I am pretty sure you can use it for your system.

My brother is running 2 of them on a 550 Watt Antec with more RAM and a more powerful CPU than you are. You should be fine for the time being. Corsair makes great PSUs.

Re: Corsair VX450 watt PSU for 8800GT?

I don't know how many amps it should be. But is this one good? It's the 550 watt version:

AC Input Rating 90 - 264VAC
Input Current 5 - 9A
Frequency 47Hz - 63Hz

DC Output Max Load Max Output
+3.3V 30A 140W
+5V 20A 140W
+12V 41A 492W
-12V 0.8A 9.6W
+5VSB 3A 15W
Total Power 550W

EDIT: OK thanks, I used to have an Antec and that gave off a burning smell after 3 weeks, so I'm too scared to get another.

That one is overkill, the 450 should work fine. Just google the PSU model name and 8800gt together to reassure yourself. I'm betting you will get hits of people running them together.
