This part does not sound familiar. At least it is not a standard JEDEC registered optocoupler. Are you going by the part marking on the device? If so, then it could be a specially screened device and perhaps marked as requested by the customer (you or someone else)

Or could this be your internal part number?

I have worked previously at QT and Fairchild heading up their Optocoupler group and I not familiar with this device name

If you have the Fairchild or QT device, can you provide me all the device markings

I sent him the pic. We'll see where that leads...

Re: Identify this chip

Thanks, DB. It's part of the Gate Drive Power Supply control board for the GE AC Propulsion system. (I'm researching this for my brother, who maintains the trains.)

Can you take a pic of the underside of the PCB ?

Or get an assembly number off the board (I might be able to extract some intel off of former colleagues )

Well I pulsed some of my former QTC and Fairchild colleagues (in fact those who are working elsewhere now) and we believe the base part number is an MCT2 and this 307AAP3 is the GE part number.

This is an older package that may have required (at that time) some special reliability screening. But you could start with our base MCT2 (see it in the listing: http://www.everlight.com/product.php...owList&type=58)

If you need samples, please fill out the attached sample request form.
The latest.

Like here ?

I have some old GE books on what I suspect was used back then. If this is similar, I might be able to dig out an application note.

Re: Identify this chip

Wow, DB, awesome job. Now to whack my brother upside the head and get him to look at the data you've assembled.

Did you used to work in light rail?

Negative. But I had a job designing weird and wonderful things involving lots of powah!

From my brother:

Quote:
GE is extremely uncooperative with regard to us repairing the units ourselves, but are also miserably slow and tremendously expensive in repairing them at their facility. Just due to their sheer size as a company, they have actually LOST several of our items, totalling over $150,000, yet they assume no responsibility for it.

Looks like this may be the answer. I cannot get to the gamer site to say thanks to all those who contributed to this cause. The guy who discovered the Everlight link from Fairchild was the real clincher. Thanks for all the input. (By the way, links to our conversation have hit position 4 in Google when the search is “307AAP3”. Awesome.)

Figures. They most likely won that bid with your brother's company years ago. Now, the people that designed these are gone and whatever tools, jigs, they had to fix the units are long gone (along with schematics I bet). They probably offered an upgrade instead
