Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

A stable and quality 500W unit is more than enough for your system Switch.

650W is overkill unless you plan on carrying the PSU over to a new system with SLI graphics.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

Have you blown the dust out of your case recently?

Surprised nobody has gone there yet, but heat is the #1 factor for a previously good GPU to start showing artifacts under load. Dust buildup on the heatsink is usually a factor. I'd also check your GPU temps with everest.

As for power supply, a 500W should be plenty.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

I keep it squeaky clean inside blowing out the dust whenever I notice any accumulation on the card. I'm buying a new PSU as noted on another post (ANTEC 650) just to prove to ATI that its not a power issue. I hope they replace the card at that point or offer some kind of appreciable discount on a new one.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

500 watts would be enough but that Antec is a quality unit and the price on it today is better than you could probably get a 500 watt unit of similar quality for.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

Yea I noticed that in my mail today and bought it instantly -- should arrive at my work tomorrow. Free shipping, no tax, 59.99 for a 650W with a quality manufacturer.

HAHA
I just posted this video up in the PSU sticky, but then went back and was reading the comments

About three quarters of the way through after some explosions, the camera pans away a bit to what seems to look like a green box with the "Coolermaster" icon? lol liablous!
I watched again and yes, you can see a Coolermaster logo on a box.

After looking at the screens you posted I feel that it's the card as well. The one thing I would ask you is when you clean out your computer what do you use? Do you properly ground yourself? Did you ever use a vacum in it?

Second thing I would try is to inspect the slot and interface tab on the card (part that goes in the slot, golden connectors) and make sure its clean. Perhaps use some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip to wipe them off?

Did you ever report your temperatures for your card? I would double check that as well to make sure the fan is working or isn't failing?

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

Its hard to get card temps as I can only access that by exiting the game, at which point temps drop like a rock... i think the card reaches the 80's when failures occur, as I see 70 readings when checking upon exiting.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

There are actually a bunch of programs that will chart or graph your temps over time, so when you alt tab out, you can see what it has been running at.

Do you know of one you would recommend or heard good things about?

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

I have used RivaTuner in the past. It can be used for overclocking or just testing and has a good graph to monitor. Or you can do what I do and just run a 2nd monitor . So much better in every way.

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163

That program can be kind of hard to figure out, so here is a pic of what you need to click on (red numbers)

That will bring up the graph type thing that records temps.
It also can show just about everything else you ever wanted to know. You can see a bunch on the screen there, but look how much that slider bar on the right can scroll up and down.

Of course my graph is flat lined right now because I am not gaming at all. It will look like the Andes Mountains once you load up a game.

And like someone said above, fans go out all the time on GFX cards. Make sure you check it's speed.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

When I get home today I'll install the new psu and then check out that link. Thanks for the utility.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

I've got my new psu installed (after having to disassemble my system, remove my huge scyth heat sink (without having spare thermal paste to reapply, so now my proc is 6 degrees hotter!)) and the same exact graphics problem is still occurring. AMD support is ignoring me after first replying all nice with check your drivers and psu.

Sapphire tech has not responded at all in any way to their support ticket.

I'm pissed. The PSU I bought is good, but i dont know if it would be sufficient for a brand new build and thats where I'm headed with this... no reason to spend any money on a new AGP card at this point...

I have a decent case (antec sonata)
A brand new PSU 650W
A new HD: WD AAKSS 750GB

Whats left?
Mobo/Proc/Video

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

Well, then it's your graphics card or your monitor.

Switch monitor's to rule it out doesn't take much time.

Re: CoolerMaster PSU Issue

CoolerMaster responded, they want me to RMA the video card -- though they didn't acknowledge the discrepancy with the 600W label and 500W model #.

I wrote them back saying the PSU has already been replaced and the issue still exists, so the PSU is not at fault -- but asking that they still explain the questionable label.

Now I need to build me a new system.

In need of:

Mobo
Proc
Ram
Video.

Already have new PSU (the Antec trio 650 -- I think that can support a new build, yes?)
Already have a new HD WD AKKS7500
Already have new optical drive (samsung etc etc dvdrw)
