OCZ Core SSD vs WD VelociRaptor: the early performance numbers are in

This should get most everyone here excited!
One of the biggest limiting factors in computers now is how fast data can move too and from the Harddrive. Solid State Drives look to make that all better

The OCZ drives they test are actually the first almost affordable drives to be released, and I have been waiting to see some real numbers.

The VelociRaptor is pretty much the fastest normal harddrive out for home consumers right now, and is really amazing in it's own right, except for the $300 price.

Re: OCZ Core SSD vs WD VelociRaptor: the early performance numbers are in

Holy cow! They haven't gotten much cheaper in the last 6 months.

Hmm 87 MB/s is what UATA 100/133 speeds? I was expecting the drives to have writes faster than my current SATAII drive (~ 250 MB/s).

Of course, read speeds are nice (for SSD).

I noticed the WD VelociRaptor has a black passive heatsink on there. Is that really needed? Also would it be mountable onto a 3.5" bay would it need to go onto a 5.25" bay?
