Re: HELP: BSODs and Lockups, Unable to Determine Cause

I am still having nvidia related crashes as well. It was just in ARMA, but then I had 2 in BF2, and then out of nowhere I had on in firefox. What the hell.

I just downgraded to old drivers from near the end of 2007, and haven't had a crash since I installed yesterday. We will see. But there are tons of help forum posts that have started recently.

Re: HELP: BSODs and Lockups, Unable to Determine Cause

Hmm, could I get that driver file off of you Bam?

The one I have that came with my 8800 is only like 1 version older than the newest one.

You can just go to the site and in the box below there is a link to Beta and Archived Drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

I have run 169.25 for 2 nights in game with no crashes yet.

Re: HELP: BSODs and Lockups, Unable to Determine Cause

I think I found a solution searching through Google and Cuil: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=202193

The OP in that thread has basically the exact same problem I have, but with his ATI driver.

I read through the posts, but the way the guy posts the solution makes me lost. How would I try the ACPI thing with my 8800GT and nV drivers?

Update

I've gone and posted in the nVidia official forums: read it here.

Found a possible solution here. Debating if I should try it. Seeing how .16 didn't help me (and caused more problems).

Re: HELP: BSODs and Lockups, Unable to Determine Cause

I have had BSOD and lock up errors in the past with a GT in both XP and Vista. I was able to almost eliminate them in XP with 175.19 (maybe one or two in a month of gaming now instead of nightly).

I always uninstall, re-boot to safe mode and run driver sweeper, re-boot and install driver. However I think your probably already doing that. I would say to try out the .12 beta driver, it can't hurt at this point?

One other thing that I did, but didn't really change things was update the video card BIOS. Check with the e-vga support site and there is a BIOS update for certain GT cards. Be sure it applies to your card though.

The only other thing I can suggest is getting your hands on another card and try it out for a bit. That is how I narrowed it down to the GT. I swapped in my GTS between two systems and found that the GT in both would cause issues but not the GTS. My friend is very understanding

IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS

I got that BSOD dozens of times with Vista x64 + 4gb ram + X-fi sound card. There was a SB driver a while back that fixed this.

Looks like your running Onboard though.

Good luck.

Re: HELP: BSODs and Lockups, Unable to Determine Cause

I'm not installing drivers through Safe Mode ever again. I had to reinstall the 175.12 Beta driver because it didn't install all the files correctly while in Safe Mode.

Anyways, I can restart without any BSODs now. I haven't tested it in game yet so I don't know if I took any performance hits.

Unless there's a number of people that says the new drivers from nV do not cause this problem, I won't be upgrading the graphics driver.

Re: HELP: BSODs and Lockups, Unable to Determine Cause

To summarize, because I'm also having BSOD problems related to my onboard sound, though I'm not sure if they're related to my 8500gt, what driver version are you running stable now?

175.12 Beta.

If you decide to try it, uninstall your current drivers from Device Manager, restart, then install the 175.12 Beta drivers. Restart again.
