    no, you do not. the motherboard failing is the only way to sidestep the legal binding of the COA to the computer. you may change the motherboard and reinstall the OS. the rest of the computer should remain intact however, you cannot simply use a motherboard frying a an excuse to build a new computer from the ground up and use the old keycode. You may be able to do it, but it would not be ethical or exactly legal.

    regardless, even if you have to speak with a rep, they will most likely allow you to reactivate.
