Asus Eee Box B202 Desktop System Evaluation

This just popped up and is something we have talked about here in the forums before.

Link:

There is also a very good video review here:
Asus Eee Box B202 Desktop System - Video Spotlight

Now this thing is not going to play most of the games we all play here, but then again it's not supposed to . It is $350 though, and I think it would be perfect for a kid or what I am considering, as a HTPC. It's only downside is it can't handle 1080P, but does 720 just fine, as the video shows. And I really like that little bracket that comes with it so you can attach it to the back of a monitor and keep it hidden. Think about it strapped to the back of a LCD in the living room, always ready to surf the web or what ever.

Not bad for $350, though I might be interested even more in a $400 one that didn't have any limitations.

Does it come with the keyboard and mouse too?

yep, though the 1st thing I would do is pic up one of the wireless Logitech keyboards with built in touch pads:

Err, not sure what I would do with a touchpad. It would just gather dust.

Goodness. That thing looks thin, really thin. I wonder how its Wii-like stand is like...does it have the easy-to-knock over problem the Wii has?

Hmm... I'm happy with my EEE 701 and this looks somewhat interesting to me. It might make a good low power use internet station for the kitchen.

HTPC? No blueray. No HDMI, No 8 channel LPCM output, No storage space, No TV Card, No 1080 playback? Weird review. It's like considering a Ford Focus for the Indy 500.

I wouldn't give it to a kid. Half the fun of computers is taking them apart and upgrading.

Wouldn't kids just spill ice cream all over the innards?

I wonder how long before I start seeing fellow IT and CS majors at DePaul lugging these around the campus...
