Media Center, for starters. Which if you don't have a TV tuner, then there's half the point in having it.

    Re: Just Another Computer Build

Both Ultimate and Home Premium have Media Center built-in and included.

    Ultimate includes mainly extras like:
    • hard drive encryption (256-bit AES BitLocker)
    • advanced networking interface and control panel
    • 128-bit file and folder encryption (like that of XP Pro)

There's no need for one since almost all boards include 10/100 or 10/100/1000 wired ethernet connectivity. If you're afraid the onboard chip/port is going to fail, then pick up a NIC. Usually 3Com, Linksys, Belkin, Buffalo, and D-Link make some good NICs (3 Com's probably the best).

One more question. Does the CPU or case come with a cooler/heatsink or something of that sort for the CPU?

Cases sometimes come with fans built in, or the just rely on the passive air flow from thh PSU fan.

CPU almost always comes with a fan packaged with the chip. Intel should give a Stock cooler.

The motherboard also sometimes comes with fan that is for the Northbridge.

Retail CPUs always come with a heatsink.

    Re: Just Another Computer Build

Some very high-end cases have a passive cooling pipe system that is attached to the case and use the case's square inch surface area as one big heatsink.

    Re: Just Another Computer Build

Just a thought, but the creative drivers available for Windows Vista aren't spectacular. You may wanna consider just sticking with on board sound, or possibly going with one of Asus' Xonar DX cards. Really nice, although there are still bugs to be worked out with the GX engine.

And for the case, you really can't go wrong with the Coolermaster CM690. It may appear ugly, but the 8 120mm fans that it can comfortably house is quite nice.

You might also want to consider going with the P6T vanilla, unless you plan on overclocking. The cash that you save could probably net you a decent aftermarket heatsink. [I'm not certain, but I thought that larger companies such as Thermalright and Noctua were offering free LGA1366 mounting kits if you sent them a copy of your invoice.]

Dropping the hard drive you have picked for the one that blitzkid recommended is another good idea. It'd save you some cash, and the drive is known for its performance.

For a NIC, you can't really go wrong with the Intel PRO gigabit NICs, but generally speaking, the on board is plenty.

    Cheers,

I'm heading out to Micro Center this weekend to checkout cases in person.

Blegh... Gateway? Are you serious? They use weird proprietary cases that could prevent you from performing any but the simplest of upgrades. I HIGHLY advise against this.
