    Re: New Headset?

I have the Razer Barracuda Set... Can't stand it..mostly because I have it's sister Audio card and havn't found a convientent way to connect the Propritary audio connector when I don't what the phones on... I tried to use the standard connections but that didn't work for me. I was unsing These TekNMotion headsets for like 6 months but the MIC broke.. They are in the process of just sending me the Replaceable MIC for free..so we shall see if that fixes the issue.. Butfor now I am using Ol' dependable Logitech ElCheapo USB Set... It does a good job of simulating 2 D , 2.1 sound.. heh..

    Re: New Headset?

So my trusty reliabe Razor Barracudas has broke....what now? I am thinking either the Tritton AXPROs which are damned expensive and hard to find in the UK, or the Astro A40 with AMP. I have a X-FI 5.1 gamer card, would the AMP be needed? And by the way, the damned Astros are even more expensive.....

Not true 5.1, it is simulated, whereas the Trittons are true. Both have ace recommendations....?

Or what about Seinnheisser HD 595? No mic though, which is annoying......Ahhh, so many choices.....

    Re: New Headset?

This review just posted on Mon., and I was saving it for my weekend time wasting post.
Tritton AX 720 Dolby Digital Surround Gaming Headset

Problem is it is for the PS3/xbox version, but still a decent review. I would look around for a PC version review. If the Tritton headset I have now ever breaks, I will probably get these.

I will mention I was watching a show on Hulu yesterday and kept thinking the wife was poking her head in the room and saying something. I kept turning around and looking. Turns out it was the surround sound from the show I was watching.

    Re: New Headset?

Yeah the Axpro are the 5.1 non-usb ones, that work for the PC......

Would there really be much difference between true 5.1, or simulated if it has an amp like these? But then I have a sound card so why not use it....

    Re: New Headset?

Guys I have used the Razor Barracudas and the Trittons. My favorite headset thus far has been the Sennheiser PC350 that I have been using for the past 8 or 9 months. I've tried them all back to back and they all produce the same amount of situation awareness/positioning in games. The Sennheiser's have the best sound quality though. They sound great in both games and playing music.

    Re: New Headset?

If I was to get a set, I would go for a 7.1 set, that has 5 male plugs that plug directly into the soundcard at the back of my PC, and each Tin would have to have 7 small speakers, 1 tweeter and a small central bass to truly drown myself in the game, plugging into the soundcard is a pain but you get more direct sound, USB and that other hardware/plug/this/into/that/and/then plug that in here/ is just overkill, if you are going to be gaming for a few hours, it is a small price to pay to have to plug out yor 2.1/5.1/6.1/7.1 speakers and plug in your headest with mic into all the ports of your soundcard, I would gladly trade that few minutes of setup to get an edge on others without such treasures. But I am just evil that way!

    Re: New Headset?

Bleh.. I am re-reading this beacause my SECOND MIC on my Pulsewave set has gone bad... GRR.. CRAP.. I will never buy a headset wit ha Flexible mic again...
So now shopping for a USB Set... I can't believe you folks still swap plugs in the back of the machine (or front's depending) for a gaming phone.. There's gotta be an easier way..a switch maybe..

I wonder if it would be best to get a decent desk mic that lines into the Sound Card and call it a day.. As long as the Desk mic is sensitive enough to pickup talking at 2 feet..it should be the same.eh?

Hey Jeepo, where did you buy those headphones? I'm in NA and can't seem to locate a dealer.

    Re: New Headset?

Mega thread revival. Its nearly winter, and sure as hell it happened like clockwork, my headphones broke. So sick and tired of headsets falling apart, mainly at the wire-to-cup connection. Headsets are by far the most expensive and troublesome things I have had to accumulate for my PC.

So I decided to shop around again. I did not want a gaming headset. I love 5.1 surround, but after a while I could see some flaws. The small speakers were not much good with extreme changes in frequency, there were little "blind spots" etc. So a lot of research was done in the last two day, on here, at AVForums and HeadFi. A lot of people obviously recommend Sennheisers and I wanted to go for the wireless RS-180's, however 10 hours of battery life could be a problem at the weekends when I live on the PC. Also, I figured that they were expensive. So I looked at the Sennheiser 595's, and the PC350's. Both great, but the bass on the 350 is apparently weak. However the openness of the 360 addressed that, so I figured I would give them a try. Ordered, should be here tomorrow, and I will post up my impressions. I am expecting an awful lot from these at the price, and a lot of reliably as well, as fits the brand.

Should go well with my X-Fi Titanium, with its 3D sound. Hopefully I will not require an Amp.........

    Re: New Headset?

I still have my PC350's and the noise-cancelling suits my life great! But i do agree about the bass, but it's not as weak as other sets mentioned in this thread. And if you are gonna go with more bass and hifi music/movies, i recommend the Beyerdynamic DT770-80 Pro which are awesome and ok priced as well.

    Re: New Headset?

Got the PC360's last night. Great bass, but thats because they are open cup design. I love them, SOOOO comfy, I love the mic mute feature, the volume on the right ear as well. The sound..........wow. I started listening to AC/DC last night and took me ages to get in game, they sound glorious. Once I tweaked the sound settings a little, and got the 3d sound set up, I really got into L4D and PR. I reckon audiophiles have a point; using 5.1 or 7.1 gaming headsets are a gimmick, a good set of headphones are the way forward. I want more for my iPhone now.....

Definitely need a sound card I reckon, but so worth it, and sturdy as hell, doubt they will break any time soon. Top notch!
