Windows 7 edges out Vista in thorough gaming benchmarks
Pretty detailed writeup here. I'm not sure what version they are using of Win7 builds, but good to know it is getting better.
Overall, three ATI Radeon HD and four NVIDIA GeForce cards were pitted with six games and applications in one of the lengthiest benchmarking features we've ever read. AMD / ATI gets credit for being the first to release combined drivers that work on both OSs, and with one lone exception, performance on the Windows 7 machine was equal to or better than Vista.

In a few cases, especially with Far Cry 2, the NVIDIA driver you can download today is simply not up to the quality we expected from the GeForce-giant.
that and I think that the 4870 is a nativtely faster card .... the 295 is faster still, that makes the 285 3rd place card. Millage varries and some games favor one or the other and destroy the overall picture. When the 4870 came out it was touted as the fastest GPU.

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
