Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
Seriously! It took them years, YEARS, to get a working driver out for Linux, and its a beta driver. Released in 2005, and not since thought about by them. They do make nice products, but getting them to work to their fullest potential can be a headache sadly.
Win7 is looking like its going to be a very good comeback for MS with how they're handling issues. Its not too much of an upgrade over Vista (so I've heard/understand), but there's a few items I'm very interested in now.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
I think that is starting in June, or early July last article I read. Pretty much if you buy a new computer after that time, it will come with a coupon you can redeem for a free copy of Win7.
As for release date, there is nothing confirmed, but a lot of reports point that MS really wants to get it out the door before the back to school buying season starts. They want to do that to make a LOT of dealers and computer makers like Gateway, Dell, and HP very happy, as it will boost their sales. So looking at an Aug/Sept. time frame.

Couple of writeups:

But that that with a grain of salt, as drivers will get better.

Microsoft is effectively giving away Windows 7 free for a year with the launch of the Release Candidate.
The Release Candidate is now available to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, and will go on unlimited, general release on 5 May.
The software will not expire until 1 June 2010, giving testers more than a year's free access to Windows 7.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
I got the 7100 build from torrents last night. The entire ~2.5GB download took just over an hour so there must have been plenty of seeders.

I saw this on Digg today and I was gonna post it but though "I'm sure Bamboo has already found this and posted it up like a month ago..."
and sure enough! You're too fast, Bamboo.

That might change some next week. Finally starting a new job, so will only have a few mins. in the mornings to check stuff, and then maybe some in the afternoons. Will probably go through withdrawal

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
I have it up and running on two out of four machines. One of them was running x86 and I decided it was time it was x64 (plus it got a RAM upgrade) so that was a fresh install, the others are or will be using the "upgrade from Beta to RC" trick.
We'll see how it all works out. The main rig is the last machine to get it, and it's almost done running it's full backup.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
Can you run the RC for win 7 as a dual boot with your existing xp system?
If so is it possible to have both xp32 and win 7 64 on your system?
