Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
Jeepo, it's not optimized noticeably compared to Vista (although Vista is leaps and bounds better than XP, in my opinion). If you only have 3GB of RAM, and you aren't interested in grabbing another gig, then you are probably better off sticking with 32bit. The only thing you might consider is that in order to upgrade to 64bit someday you will not be able to upgrade. You will have to do a clean install.
Also, if anyone is interested. If you want to upgrade from XP to Windows 7, upgrade your XP to Vista, then without activating it, upgrade Vista to Windows 7.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
Well, I ordered a new hard drive today, and another 4gb of RAM. What I will do is install W7 on the new HD, copy everything I need saved to it, then re-install XP on my other HD so I get a dual boot. XP should be fine with the 3gb of RAM, and W7 can use the rest. I am DLing drivers etc now that will work for W7, and also DLing any drivers I have installed but didn't save for XP. Only ones I am concerned about are my Creative drivers for my X-Fi Extreme gamer, not sure what the situation there is. NVidia has drivers for W7, and I am lead to believe most Vista 64 drivers will work in W7 for those that I can't find.
I have backed up all my setting for tricky things, like FRAPS ingame sound issues etc, and can't really think of much else to do except wait for the DL's to finish and my new hardware to arrive. I have backed up iTunes and deauthourised it, and same with Steam. Actually, can I have iTunes installed and authourised on both my XP and W7 HD's, without any issues? Apart from the obvious needing to copy files around, there are no issues with me doing this? Anything I have forgot/need to concern myself with/consider? The help is appreciated guys.
EDIT: I found some creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer drivers for W7 that will hopefully work:

Royal Mail special delivery should be here as early as tomorrow, but I am working all week until Sunday. But we can figure something out, like last time we have Skype on the iPhone if it all goes belly up!
