Another "YEAH!!" here as well. Maybe Evenbalance will finally release a beta or something for PB so people can actually start testing windows 7 out with PR. That would be so sweet.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
It is out all over the torrents, and supposed to be pretty fast. I'm going to wait for the official version, but just letting you know.
In even bigger news, this was just posted:
Windows 7 Release Candidate 1's Best Surprise New Features
And the part I'm really interested in is the "Windows XP Mode"
I WANT DETAILS!To encourage enterprise people to let loose and rock Windows 7, it runs a full-fledged Windows XP virtual environment using Microsoft's Virtual PC. It requires an additional download (booo), but you won't have to worry about your applications breaking like with Vista.
So, does this mean we can run games that don't always like Vista and make them run like they actually were in XP. And how much more resources would that take? Fullscreen?

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
Great find Reaper! Says I must spread more rep around

Really good news!
With a bit of bad:
I really didn't want to have to buy Ultimate, but at least this is something that might be worth paying extra for (unlike Vista Premium vs Ultimate for most people). It will be made available, for free, to users of Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions
But what I really want to know is, how does it handle games? A bunch of game for some reason still score higher in XP, and arn't DX10, so running it under WXP mode might be a good boost. My understanding from the article is it is mostly CPU dependent right? So if you have a game that runs on one core, while this runs on another is my hope. (since most of the games I'm thinking about dont' run on multi-core)

Could be interesting to see but I wonder how DirectX would be handled as XP is DX9 only and Win7 is going to be DX11.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
Sounds like if I were to run Portable Ubuntu from my UFD inside of a window in Windows. Hmm, would let me use one of my many XP keys at least and could be nice for some older games I want to run but don't want to disable DEP to do so.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
If this is a RC what time line would you all guess as to the actual release? Considering all the money Microsoft has put into advertising Vista and all I thought for sure that it was going to be late 2010 or early 2011. But if this is a RC does that mean Q4 2009, or am I jumping the gun?

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
In the Win7 beta EULA's it mentions the fact that they expire in August and at such time you will have to revert or purchase a full version of Win7. So it seems to me like a fall release may be a possibility.

Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
After a certain date, if you purchase VIsta or get it with your computer purchase, you get a certain rate discount on the purchase of Windows 7. There's lots of reasons why they want to push Win 7 out....
-and as for the Creative drivers, I'm absolutely FLOORED that they have Win 7 updated drivers. Considering how bad they are about drivers in general. Many people have already written Creative off as beyond redemption..."But way back where I come from, we never mean to bother. Re: Windows 7 RC coming May 5 for public consumption
if you go to run type in winver
RC1 expires 3/01/10
at least it does for me..
as far as I've heard there is no official word on windows 7 and PB, I'm guessing there will be no support until Win7 is finally released in stores..
