I've been Virused...
Yea so I got a virus on my computer and it's laggin' the hell out of **** and giving me popups. I'm pretty sure it's linked to steam because the day after I got a friend request from some dude I've never heard of who had 0 anything in common so I blocked him. The moral os the story is I'm not going to be playing for a bit until I figure out what to do. On the contrary, anybody have any suggestions on what to do?

I don't think that guy could've given you and STD if he only gave you a friend request. Did you visit and particular website, download/save any file in the past couple days?

Conen get yourself spybot, avg anti virus, ccleaner and windows defender. Run them all and let it clean your computer out.

That was my first plan Vulcan, but my brother reformated the computer a little while back and he never re-installed spybot. So I tried yesterday but my computer was too laggy so I just forgot about it.
I just booted up my PC (I'm on my Mac right now) and the following abnormalities occurred:
-No programs that are set to launch upon start-up (Steam, and an AVG Anti-Virus popup saying I need to update it that I've been ignoring for a long arse time) did not start, and my computer was kept on a perpetual loading state.
-Then It gave my a popup saying that a program could not be opened, It was a program I've never heard of though.
-Then I opened my internet browser and it said that It was running a Proxy server that did not allow connection. I opened my downloads window and All I've downloaded were three counter-strike maps, 2 from FPSbanana and 1 from LanManiax. BUT WAIT... there was also a very mysterious download that I don't know what it was or where it came from, it was downloaded yesterday (After the Virus was already contracted), so that spooked me a little."Be careful guys, he's got a gun"

That's why I take the necessary precautions.
Conen you may be screwed now and have to reformat again. The other option is to run virus scan in safe mode but that's a rather arduous task.

I think reformat is my best option. I just need to figure out how, it's my brothers computer and he knows all the stuff to do with it, but he lives in Italy now. I just hope that my steam account hasn't been hacked or anything.

Go to my link and post in the virus/trojan/spyware help forum. Read the stickies first. They will help you clean your computer without a reformat. Someone will eventually come help you. Just follow their directions.

STD sometimes is the correct term. If you get a virus while surfing porn, then it's an STD!
A good firewall serves as an Internet condom, but sometimes condoms fail, so you need defense in depth.
BTW, this being a software issue, posting in the Hardware and Software forum will get you the best minds from ALL the gamers at TG.

If you get a virus, reformat without question or hesitation. There's no way to guarantee that you'll fix everything on a Windows system. While virus software may eliminate the virus, it rarely repairs the damage. I generally reformat once every six months or so, although I don't have to use the Windows installer to get it on my computer, so it's much less painful for me.

Doesn't a reformat wipe the system clean? I think a reformat is a little drastic. Do you know what kind of virus it is?
