Re: Lynnfield CPUs and P55 chipset launch September 1st
There is going to be a PCI-E 3.0 bus supposedly coming in 2010.
I'm shocked that they're going to EoL the P45 chipset only after about 1.5 years. I only got this mobo middle of last year and by the end of this year my mobo might even get discontinued if P55 gets launched.Acreo Aeneas

Dude, 1.5 years? That is forever. My P35 lasted even less than that and was changed to p45. You will still be able to buy some variations though just in case your MB fries or something.

Re: Lynnfield CPUs and P55 chipset launch September 1st
I guess we will build about every three years and once built just decide to happy for the next three years.
Look at this way, it still cost a lot less than a bass boat.

Re: Lynnfield CPUs and P55 chipset launch September 1st
just to bring this thread back in (as Lynnfield is one of the biggest things happening soon)
here are some early specs I think the speeds are at 2.67GHz, 2.8GHz, and 2.93GHz
I'm just glad that I had the patience to wait off and not buy a Q9550

Re: Lynnfield CPUs and P55 chipset launch September 1st
Thats an intersting link. It is the same info as Anandtech posted about a month ago (link is on the 1st page of this tread), but says it is from a Turkish site. It is weird because I know some guys that work at the firingsquad site also work at anandtech, or at least they did about a year or so ago.

Once again its not much but I think it is the first benchmark comparing Lynnfield to Bloomfield and other chips, someone broke the rules a good bit to get this out

Re: Lynnfield CPUs and P55 chipset launch September 1st
Good links Reaper!
I also had this in my Newegg email this morning

So looks like you can order them too. I really think they are confusing people with the 800 series of i7 chips. Will have to read through the reviews and see how they compare to the 920.
Also, if you are ordering, make sure you read about memory in the reviews. I haven't had time yet but it seems that the p55 uses some low voltage RAM or something and you need to make sure the RAM you order will work.
I'm probably going to be out of the loop a bit the next few days. We ended up buying a house and the whole thing needs painting inside and out, and probably going to scrape the popcorn crap off the ceiling. Good times

Re: Lynnfield CPUs and P55 chipset launch September 1st
The memory controller on Lynnfield is a just a hair faster than Bloomfield and has the same specifications so max voltage is 1.65.
The i7 920 gets out performed by the i5 750 a fair number of times and is the i7 870 is usually only topped by the i7 975, so it looks like the i7 860 could be a sweet spot for people offering more than the 920 at around the same price but less overall price.
So far those are the only three motherboards on newegg, and they are all expensive so far. Newegg seems under prepared for the launch, can't get to the processors or motherboards unless its from the email, or maybe they are doing that to make sure the email people get first dibs.Last edited by Reaperassault; 09-08-2009 at 12:11 PM.

Re: Lynnfield CPUs and P55 chipset launch September 1st
Not really a Lynnfield topic but an ES of the 32nm hexacore Gulftown got clocked to 6.4 GHz on LN2, and was stable at 5.9 GHz.
