    Re: Summer Upgrades

If I was running your current system, I would put the extra money away till Thanksgiving time and then pick up a combo deal of Win7, a new SSD, and a new ATI card. Ati is saying it will be out by the end of Oct, and by end of Nov the prices should have started to drop.

A new high end headset might be fun if the $$ is really burning a hole in your pocket. A really good headset is always better than 5.1 surround sound. Both because you can really hear the fine details, like footsteps, but also you can play at what ever sound you want to and not bother anyone else.

That sounds good to me. I guess my only concern with switching OS is the effort of switching everything over. I won't go to Win7 until punkbuster works correctly.

Graphics card is on hold, I guess it is better to have the newer card then two older ones. I'll give the 4870 away then.

As for the SSD, what would be best to put on the thing. OS? Games?

Thanks for all the input again though!

Punkbuster DOES work with Win7 - you just have to update it yourself manually. I'm running Win7 x64 and playing 2142 problem free!

If you really need to get your spending fix, you could always sponsor someone at TG (buy them some SM goodness)... it's the feel-good route

    Moar stocks!

Stocks aside, how about a 24" main monitor with the 22" as the side, getting rid of the 19"?

    That's an idea.

Any specific brand? If I were to look I would crawl back to Samsung.

I would say go with the 26" Samsung, and while it might bring your FPS down just a tad, when you upgrade gfx. cards at the end of summer, it will work out awesome.

Then just get one of the EVGA usb monitor adapters for about $50 for your 19" and put it on like a movable arm so it could be up off the desk. Keep TS and other small apps open on it.

I'd go with Samsung too. There was a sale on Newegg for the Samsung 24" that has a built in TV tuner, so you could natively watch TV on it too.
