Re: What do you do with your old computers?
I cast off my old P3 Dell Dimension L866R to my Grandmother. I kinda wish I hadn't as she is always calling me for tech support...
Before that I had some 1991 model Macintosh if I remember correctly. I played little 2D demos on there, Realmz, and F/A-18 Hornet 1.0.
In 2007 I got my first job and built my first system that I have still. I upgrade the video card from a 7600gt to 8800gt and sold the 7600 for $10 to some guy I saw walking to Fry's Electronics when he got off the bus at the same stop.
I also switched out my case but I still have the old one.
I also have a big box of old computer stuff that I like to keep just for the sake of having a large box of odds and ends.

Re: What do you do with your old computers?
If I upgrade, the old parts generally go into my dad's computer (he doesn't do anything that requires a powerful machine), so that one is probably 2-4 years behind mine. The parts that come out of his generally go into a spare computer that lives in my brother's room. That one is sometimes used for testing (grab a part from that, put it in another machine to see if there is a problem, etc.) or as a backup if one of our computers breaks.
I have no idea what happens to parts that come out of that computer, I expect they're so old they just get binned.

Re: What do you do with your old computers?
When I build my new computer in July, I want to turn my old one (still useful, but it's done it's 3 years
) into:
- Bizzaare case mod experiment. No idea what theme yet...
- Dedicated bandwidth-whore.
- linux experiments/self-teaching tool for various programs and such.

Re: What do you do with your old computers?
sell it off before it gets old enough to not be worth anything. I go through 10 to 20 laptops per year. In the last year I have purchased:
2 dell inspiron c2q desktops (1 at work, 1 at home)
5 dell mini9's (all but one sold or given as gifts... my wife has the last one)
inspiron 1720 (sold for 200 less than I had in it after 8 months of using it)
inspiron 6400 (sold for 1/2 what I had in it after 10 months)
inspiron 1525 (sold for MORE than I had in it after 5 months)
ux180p (sold for more than I had in it)
ux380p (sold for 200 less than I had in it after 8 months of use)
portege m400 (just purchased)
2x portege m200 (just purchased - will possibly sell one for profit)
poweredge 2550 (still using as a server)
gateway solo 2500 (sold for double after 1.5 years)
some hp 17" laptop (sold for 4x after 2 months)
Everyone I know comes to me for computers, so I am constantly selling whatever computer I (and MUCH to my wife's chagrin - her's) am currently using. Re: What do you do with your old computers?
I keep a bunch of my very very old computer parts in the other room in a box. I wouldn't mind if one of you guys decided to throw some sort of replacement video card that's better than a AGP ATI Radeon X1650 my way.. xD
