Re: Windows 7 official pricing announced, limited pre-orders start tomorrow
See that's going to be downer for me then. I like to have a back up OS that's not Linux based. Right now I've got server 2003, but I'm not going to sacrifice my XP license just to get Windows 7.

Re: Windows 7 official pricing announced, limited pre-orders start tomorrow
well, the thing is, you can use one or the other. if you have win7 installed using the xp as the base for the upgrade, the xp is part of that os. if win7 is not installed, then the xp is valid...

You know maybe I will just go for it. Does it matter if I have XP Pro or Home? I just found an old copy of XP Home that I was using before I got Pro through my school. I could use that and keep the MSDN license the school gave me.

Re: Windows 7 official pricing announced, limited pre-orders start tomorrow
If the point of using XP is to make it your rescue OS, then you'd never be running it at the same time as Win7, so it seems like it would be legal to have both installed on the same system. But I can't predict what stupid things might be in the license that prevent that.

Not to overlook the EULA... (and who would ever overlook that lovely piece of literature)... but having dealt with Microsoft's Legal divison regarding licensing etc... it always came down to the Damn Sticker... If the Box had a License Sticker on it and the OS inside had the same Install serial...then it's good. The legal division didn't mess around with the Fuzzies...

Does Win7 install on top, or am I going to partition my hard drive? I'd like to start anew.

Just picked up home pro from Newegg. They were sold out of Home Premium. Even got a cool $2.50 back from Bing cashback.

I did. I got my confirmation email. Can't say anything about having the card charged since my bank was nice and turned off my internet banking last year.
Log into your newegg account and see if it's one of your purchases.

Most places say you won't be charged till your item ships. I think I read that at best buy, and maybe amazon. Probably would be the same for Newegg.
