Re: Windows 7 official pricing announced, limited pre-orders start tomorrow
Hmmm. So, I have Vista Ultimate. My only options for a pre-order discount are home premium and professional? I'd then have to go with professional. And how will that "upgrade" work going from a full package to a lesser upgrade? Can I just wipe the drive (all my files and data are backed up daily) and do a fresh install of Win 7? Systems tend to have better results with a clean install rather than the upgrade merge.
Or should I wait and see if MS comes out with an Ultimate to Ultimate discount? There's offers for a $9.99 upgrade if you buy Vista Ultimate now, but I bought mine over a year ago for full retail.
I've searched but found vague answers...

What I don't understand is why W7 is being 'RTM'd but they ship only in late October. Release to Manufacturing sounds like they press the bits on DVDs, but they could just make it available for download now.
