I read somewhere that you need to make sure your auto-defrag that runs in the background is turned off in the OS. Otherwise Vista might try to keep everything organized like with an optical drive during computer idle time.
I thought there was an article somewhere about SSD's losing write speed over time because of writes to the same pages. Something about the pages not being deleted, only deallocated, when a file is deleted. So writing to the same page again requires a delete before writing and that's what slows down SSD's in the long run. This would mean defragging would slow down your drive after it moves data on the drive around to unused pages.

While you don't want to defrag an SSD, you might want to garbage collect it:

Well Intel finally released the firmware update. Hopefully they'll be back on sale soon.

Very interesting news up on slickdeals right now

    Intel X-25M 160GB G2 $402 w/$20 off Paypal and 6% Bing Cashback @ Newegg

    Edit:
Crap, looks like they sold out already. When you are on the page with all the Intel SSD listed, it shows it in stock, but when you click on it, it says Auto-notify.

Check this price gouging going on. What is this, the Wii? I should sell mine on ebay. Unbelievable.

    The 80GB is now $499.00.

And the 160GB is now $899.00.

I have a SSD for my laptop, but I cant justify the cost for the desktop yet. I am sticking with the WD VelociRaptors that I have now...
