Probably. For desktop cards, the drivers from the card manufacturer are the right ones, because all the cards are the same, but for mobile cards you have to use special mobile drivers, which are found on the relevant manufacturer's website.

Or you can find slightly-modified-for-mobile (there's a couple sites that do this) normal drivers and see if they work.

Dude with a laptop like that the only place you're gonna get help is from alienware. That's all custom stuff even the drivers i'm sure.

If it persists in the problem department, send it to me, I will find a use for it....

Not that I am an expert or anything but I think Nvidia has one set of drivers for laptops and another for desktops. This maybe why you are getting that message. Again, I am not any kind of expert on this subject.

BTW, very nice laptop. I use the Dell XPS M1710 laptop which seems ancient in terms of specifications compared to yours.

The drivers for desktop cards that are on the nVidia site DO NOT work unmodified for mobile cards. Took me about ten hours to figure that out. :| The only place to find the official drivers is probably the Alienware website.

Im gonna pick up one of these badboys after or during my AIT. This is perfect and mobile for me whenever i go on deployments and so forth. Ill be able to game anywhere I want. This bad boy also has facial recognition which is bar none security features. I also like the fact that u can change the colors of every led that is on the laptop

This is what I want on mines:
    - Lunar Silver Color
    - Personalized Name Plate
    - Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz CPU
    - Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 280M, 2GB – SLI
    - 17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200
    - 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
    - 256GB Solid State Drive
    - Logitech G9 Gaming Mouse

For the OS im gonna wait till windows 7 comes out in october..by that time ill be out of my Basic Training and ill have money to purchase the laptop

For my gaming haeadset..im gonna go with the Alienware TactX™ Headset. Very nice powerful gaming headset.

Yeah, it looks like I am relegated to using the Alienware drivers. I will definitly have to work on that!

That is a crazy powerful, crazy expensive beast. You're definitely going to want to pick up a fan base or something else to help cool that, because otherwise you're gonna melt the cards into so much slag.

Even with SLI, mine is running super cool. I don't know how, but it is way cooler then any laptop I have ever used..

Really? Wow. Is the fan just crazily loud and fast, or is actually well-designed for cooling itself>

it is very well designed.. but im not sure abot the loud and fast part. I know the fans adjust to the temp. of the laptop and spin as needed..
