New Laptop (Now with issues)
So after years of getting frustrated with paper weights that companies pawn off as computers, I finally broke down and bought a proper laptop.
I already own several laptops and desktops, but with all the traveling I do, I am missing out on the ability to continue gaming remotely. I looked around at several different manufacturers and compared prices for gaming laptops as well as hardware for the buck. I went with a Alienware M17x, that seems like it should do fine for what I want.
They gave me some crazy 15% discount for singing up with Dell as well as a free Win7 upgrade. So why not!!! My only issue is it took 1.5 months to build and I have two more weeks until I get it.

Re: New Laptop (Finally)
holy cow BigC. That is one nice piece of portable computing. SLI in a laptop...with two GTX 280's...I've got a GTX 280 and can barely fit it in my tower case. They must be a specially modded card for laptops, right?...
Good luck with the new machine.|TG-1st|Grunt

Re: New Laptop (Finally)
The gtx280m =/= gtx280, it actually uses a different chip(the same used in the 8800gts512/9800gtx+/gts250).
It is the best mobile chip, though, as far as I know.|TG-12th| Namebot

Very nice BigC, I bet you can't wait to play ARMA2 on that thing.

Re: New Laptop (Finally)
home premium kinda sucks but you do get win7 when it comes out so that makes up for it.
That really is the best laptop money can buy. Don't accidentally leave that sitting anywhere lol except with me.

Yeah well, so much traveling sucks bad enough, but watching porn on a 12" screen is not cutting it anymore!!!

Re: New Laptop (Finally)
"Mobile" and "17 inch screen" are mutually exclusive terms. The laptop I am typing on is a 17 inch Toshiba... love it to death except when I am porting it around. Otherwise, I am a lovely shade of chartreuse at the moment, BigC... wish I had one half as nice!

Re: New Laptop (Finally)
Instead of big screens, we need laptops with a small laser that paints the image on one's retina, clipped to the frame of glasses. This technology has been demonstrated but not yet marketed. So far the closest we've come is little displays mounted on the front of glasses.

Re: New Laptop (Finally)
Ok, I got the laptop the other day. Holy hell is it huge for a laptop.
Anyway. I have run into a issue that I have never experienced before. I cannot load any of the NVidia drivers. I tried several variants of the drivers with no luck. It keeps coming back saying that I do not have the correct hardware to load any drivers. It currently has the 179.xx drivers and control panel.
Any ideas? The Meek shall inherit the earth..... after we're through with it!
