Re: Gaming Mouse
Man I would have killed for the Mamba, but at £100 that was double the X8 and I could not justify it. Loving the DPI switch on it, it helped me go 31-8 yesterday in PR, a respectable score, switching to 500DPI for long range shooting is almost like cheating........

Re: Gaming Mouse
If you enjoy the ergonomic of the G5 mouse, logitech is coming out with a new mouse called the G500. I own the G5 v.1 and it's a great mouse but I despise the middle scroll/button wheel as it's just too damn sensitive and uncomfortable to use. What I mean is that the slightest touch it would change weapons and the button would sometime select a different option than the one you intent to when pressed.
Hopefully this new iteration improves on that.

Re: Gaming Mouse
Personally, I think that you have no need for the astoundingly high dpi every one of your selected mice have. The dpi race really doesn't matter anymore, as you begin sacrificing too much control after you hit the 2,000 dpi mark. Anything above that, in my opinion, is useless.
I have a bunch of Counter-Strike buddies who still game on the IE 3.0 with 400 dpi, while I myself use an overclocked Logitech MX310 at 800 dpi.
In essence, Dpi doesn't really matter anymore. Buy a mouse that feels comfortable in the hand and is reasonably accurate when you wave it around.

Re: Gaming Mouse
I would have to slightly disagree with that. My current MX518 is 1800 dpi and there was a huge difference when I moved up to a Razer Copperhead at 2000 dpi. I'm sure that some of it was just a better product but its still a valid point that dpi can have a great effect on game play, at least in FPS land. I can see some usability come out of 3000 dpi but I do agree that most of this is just marketing, "oh look I got more dpi than you, take that!"
I would love to get my hands on a newer mouse since my copperhead has lost its ability to click but $70 is a lot of money to plop down. I'd love to see a few quality mice get place in the sub $35 section but for now that area is filled with somewhat junky stuff.Reapator, overlord of ponies

Re: Gaming Mouse
If I had to chose right now I'd go with the Mamba. Any wired mouse is out of the race. I haven't used wired mice in over a decade as the resistance from the wire is far more distracting to me than any perceived lag from the wireless.
In fact my last series of mice for games have been:
Logitech MX 700
Logitech MX 1000
Logitech MX Revolution (current, and a huge disappointment)
The reason the Mamba would get the nod is because the X8 does not look like it would be comfortable after the MX 700/MX 1000 and the G7 (which I bought for my wife) lacks the second side button which I use extensively in my MMO games. In fact the only thing keeping me from a Mamba right now is the fact that I can't find a store that'll let me palm one for a minute or two just to make absolutely sure I'll feel comfortable with it. If I'm going to drop $130 on a mouse I want to make sure it doesn't end up to be a dud like my $80 MX Revolution turned out to be.

Re: Gaming Mouse
Thats exactly what happened my Copperhead.....
Agree here, the Copperhead is a similar size to the Mamba, and was extremely comfortable. The X8 is bigger definately, but due to the way I use it, with my entire hand resting on it it is actually now extremely comfortable. However, moving from a Logitech would be more difficult as it is my understanding that they are quite small. The X8 thumb buttons although initially a little weird due to their over/under configuration are great, far smoother to use than my copperhead side by sides were, no more jerking to reach with my thumb.

Re: Gaming Mouse
That may be on the drawing board but Newegg has no such beastie and, in fact, Logitech's own site still has a single side-button G7.
The VX Revolution or the MX 1100 are the closest beasts that Logitech puts out right now. Well, looks like the MX 1100 suffers from the same problem as the MX Revolution, so, yeah, just the VX Revolution which is marketed as their laptop mouse. Don't get me wrong, great mice (Well, ok, the MX line is crap now...) but just not decent gaming mice because of dubious design decisions by Logitech.

Re: Gaming Mouse
I almost hate to say it but I bit the bullet and got a Mamba, I could not resist. I didn't think I could spend that much money on a mouse but I'll find out of damn good of a mouse I just got in a few days.

Re: Gaming Mouse
I've been leaning towards it as my MX Revo is still annoying me. Maybe I should ask one of the salesdrones at Best Buy if they can let me get a feel for the mouse.
Of course I have competing interests now. I've wanted a Dell Mini 9 w/Ubuntu for about a year now. I finally have enough for a Mini 10v but not enough for a 10v and a Mamba. 10v, Mamba... 10v, Mamba... >.<

Re: Gaming Mouse
I'll have to give it another gander in about a month. Ordered my 10v a few days ago. Won't be here until the 15th. Curse Best Buy and NewEgg for not stocking the Linux version. Curse Dell for taking a freakin' month to "build" a netbook. WTH?!

Re: Gaming Mouse
I have not had those particular mice, but have had from both razer and logitech. Last mouse I had was the Copperhead. It was a great mouse, but due to extensive gaming (I guess) the coating that was on the mouse started to wear off on mouse1/mouse2. Although that was after a year maybe. I don't know if all razer mice have this, but it was very annoying. Not getting another mouse because of that :/. Right now I have a G5 and I like it thus far, but maybe it will have problems of its own down the road.

Re: Gaming Mouse
What's with all these mice dying? I had just a cheapo microsoft mouse for about 10 years before the left click stopped clicking. Well it still presses the button but without a click so it's confusing to use. That's what makes me hesitant to get an over $50 mouse because what's with it lasting like half the time of a $20 mouse?
Though I think I need to get a new mouse and keyboard. I had been using the same Compaq keyboard for the past 15 years and mouse for the past 10, both have now gotten to the point of unusable. So for now I'm using a free mouse and keyboard from an ancient computer my dad had bought so I've been looking through here for recommendations. I'm still uncertain...
