So after a month of HP having my computer for repairs, I finally have it back, and have most of my apps installed. First thing I did was go to the steam page and buy a few more games to keep me playing till Christmas, however when I first tried to play one of them it finished updating, started up, then crashed steam. I tried reopening steam, but it opens just on the taskbar, and I select a right click option the whole process closes.

I have opened a service ticket with steam, but so far the few diagnostics they have had me do have done nothing to help. I searched around and found someone with the same problem, but the advice he was given (to do a clean install of steam, and make sure vista is updated) didn't help. I have also tried starting up without any anti virus programs running, but that did nothing to help.

Any advice?
