ASUS EeeBox EB1012 teases home theaters
I have been waiting for this for a while now, and even though we don't get a ship date or price, at least there is more news on it.
ASUS EeeBox EB1012 teases home theaters with dual-core Atom and Ion graphics
The older EeeBox had a single core, and didn't handle HD youtube and Hulu very well in reviews, so I have been holding out for one of these. You can attach them pretty easily to the back of many big screen TVs. Can't wait for release. Just hope it is under $500.
Here is a pic of a current model on the back of like a 22" LCD screen.

And now just posted is Acer's version very similar to the ASUS.
Acer's Ion-powered Aspire Revo 3600 packs dual-core Atom 330
At least there will be some options.

Re: ASUS EeeBox EB1012 teases home theaters
Thanks for the link Reaper.
It does show they aren't great for gaming, but would be good for just about everything I would want to do on my TV in the living room. Watching youtube and playing flash games, checking email, playing video from networked harddrives.
I checked newegg and some of the stuff like talked about in the anandtech article are about $150:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=NVIDIA%20ION
You know what would be cool is to get that and make your own high end case, like out of an exotic wood (or plyboo
) so that it looked cool sitting next to the TV, instead of mounting it to the back.

Re: ASUS EeeBox EB1012 teases home theaters
it is nice since it takes up less space then an actual media pc... but if its $500 its not worth it you can build a much better media pc for less

Along with the stuff above, just spotted this build/review/guide:
NVIDIA Ion mini-ITX System Build Guide
Looks like it does pretty well. Pretty expensive for the price if the ASUS eee above comes in under $500, but then again it does have a blueray drive.

Re: ASUS EeeBox EB1012 teases home theaters
Acer's little nettop box got updated, and looks like it should be able to handle HD pretty well now with ION and the dual core ATOM. And for around $300 would be great for either a HTPC or a kid's computer.

NewEgg carries the Acer nettop. Though last time I checked, they had the one before the refresh and it was $199.99 with free shipping. Something you guys might be interested in (I sure am - just wish I had the $$$).

Re: ASUS EeeBox EB1012 teases home theaters
Oh, hmph. I saw the Revo (the $200 one on NewEgg) had the ION LE platform so I figured they also had the 330 in there. Apparently not. The 9400 chipset from nV combined with the 330 makes it a pretty good HDTV PC.
Something that's along the lines: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883220015
The above ASUS is a good consideration for the average home user who doesn't do more than office documents, emails, and a video once in a while. Atom 330 + nV's ION (9400 chipset). For $600, it's not bad since it has a built-in display, keyboard, and mouse.Acreo Aeneas
