Yeah X-mas might be the time to buy. $399 is quite the price tag. The 5870 looks like one hell of a card.

I'm not sure how reliable this source is but if it is for real... :wow:

We are talking about a new videocard whose core speed is at 850 MHz and whose 256-bit GDDR5 runs at 1200 MHz – all for the suggested retail of $399! AMD is expecting HD 5870 to come close to the performance of a HD 4870-X2 or the GTX 295.
Man, this is exciting stuff. I can't wait to see what Nvidia pulls out of their hat in a few months.

Yes looks like my 4870 will be replaced by the 5870 this year then. Just need to wait for an alternative and silent cooling solution like i always do. From what i've read tdp will be around the same as the 4870/90 so the cooler required will be massive.

Some pics of a very stock card:
ATI's HD 5870 smiles for the camera

Can't wait to run more than 2 monitors without additional cards/adapters.

Shots being pulled due to NDA
    New direct link from article

That thing is MASSIVE. Need a case just for the card. High GPU clock at least 1 Gb of memory running at 1.2 Ghz..... I want!

I don't know what to wait for - Holidays so the cards drop in price or to see what Nvidia brings out. They usually are pretty good with one-upmanship.

Go for this or the new screen :/

Oh well that thing is so huge that I doubt it'll fit my case in the first place. Maybe closer to the Christmas, if my loyal 8800 can still hold it...

That cooler is a standard cheapo one they use. It's noisy and and cools ok. After market cooler (heatpipe-systems etc from Thermalright etc) are way better.

But while processors and harddrives are using less and less watts the gfx business is not nice to the environment at all. Shame on you.

Can't wait to see the benches of ATi vs NVIDIA this year, wonder who'll come out on top as right now NVIDIA seems to hold the title. Price wars are going to be great again haha.
