    Q: I pre-ordered the Prof. upgrade Version back in June for the special price, but right now I have Win 7 RC1 installed instead of Vista. Do I have to install my full copy of Vista (Ultimate64bit) then Win 7 on a new HDD, or can I install it over the RC1?

    You can should be able to RTM/final from RC1.

    I tried upgrading my RC1 of Win7 Ultimate to the Win7 Ultimate, I received in the mail. It did not work. It said it is not compatible with the upgrade.

    Zippy-2-war,

    You will not be able to upgrade Windows 7 RC. You will need to perform a custom install if migrating from Windows Vista to Win 7. When migrating from Windows Vista to Windows 7 you will have the option to select "custom" or "upgrade" install when prompted. By selecting the "upgrade" option, your documents and applications will follow and carry over through the install process. If you select, "custom" however you will be able to perform a clean install and all applications / documents will have to be reinstalled / transferred manually.

    For additional assistance with the migration of Windows Vista to Windows 7, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here socialdottechnetdotmicrosoftdotcom/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro/ (Replace the "dot" with a period "."). It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You are welcome to check the threads there and receive additional assistance and feedback.

    WOW, Thank you Jessica!!!

    Those were the precise answers I needed. With the launch of Win 7 this Thursday, your timing is great too. I have Pre-ordered 5 versions of Win 7 and now I know exactly how to install each of them - some with be an upgrade "migration", and the others will be a clean install. You really have put my mind and questions about installing Win 7 to rest. I will also check the support link you posted for further information.
