internet connection problems
Ok, so earlier this morning, my computer crashes, and i restart only to find that now internet doesnt work now. It works fine on the other machine on the network, just not mine. Modem is working, hub is working, i even switch my comp's wire with the other computer. Other computer still works, mine doesn't. I take out the cable on my computer and plug it back in, nothing.
i then went to network connections in the control panel, and looked at it from there. It says, when i click repair, that it cannot create or get a new IP address for my computer.
Im out of ideas.

Re: internet connection problems
you need to find your closest dns servers and plug those IP's in.
start> my network places > view network connections > right click local area connections > properties > Click Internet protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties
thats how you see the DNS servers

Re: internet connection problems
ok hmm.. while i still suggest you get an ip for each computer and DNS server, obtain automatically is ok.
the network card is good isnt it? maybe take it out and test it on other pc?

google.com
216.239.37.99
DNS is Domain Name Resolutions. It's what turns google.com into the IP address above. Often (but not always, and not necessarily in this case), your internet connection is fine, but your DNS is failing. The result is that you can't GET ANYWHERE on the internet becuase you tell your computer to go to google.com and it has no idea what IP address that resolves to.
Run the following command on your PC. If the requests time out, you have no internet connection. If you get replies, you have an internet connection and likely have a problem with your DNS:

Re: internet connection problems
can dns and gateway be shared for multiple machines?
what would happen if i got the numbers from this machine and put them on that one, excluding the subnet mask, and the ipaddress?

Re: internet connection problems
ok...stop.....
what ip is this computer getting? when you just click one time to highlight the local area connection, does it say 10.0.0.whatever or 192.168.0.whatever or 172.whatever or are you getting a 169.whatever ip address. if you are getting 169, then the computer cannot communicate with the router.
are your ip addres lines filled in or set to obtain automatic like the dns servers. set to automatic.
do you have a 1394 connection listed? disable it and reboot.
do you have any connections bridged? if you see a bridge, delete the bridge and it should fix the internet issue.Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -Albert Einstein
