Very interesting.
Engadget actually posted a kind of part 2 to their review. I don't think I have seen this for any other gadgets

The kernel for the droid is already being ripped apart by developers in hopes of rooting it. looks like there may be some custom update goodness for it inside a month or two. not to mention the fact that it's going to yield untold riches to those of us not buying one in the form of G-Nav and the A2.0 source.

My Blackberry account is eligible for upgrade next March... I wonder if they will give me a prorated credit for that..?? I already have one that is due for the new every two deal..but that's my wife's "dumb phone"... Maybe the Verizon store can work some magic for me on this one...

Re: Motorola Droid - A855- Android powered competitor to iPhone?
peardog, they can. simply get the droid on discount on your wife's account and tell them you're going to set it up and activate it at home (rather than having them do it there, so that they dont put your wife's phone number on it). that way, you can go home, pop the sim out of your phone and into the droid and voila.

Re: Motorola Droid - A855- Android powered competitor to iPhone?
except the droid doesn't have a sim-card slot...
of course I think you can still do what you suggested ferris... just minus the sim-card part.

Droid = Da Bomb! Wish T-Mobile had it. I love my MyTouch, though.

Tomorrow is a day filled with glory, as my ghetto ass phone gets replaced with something that is actually worthwhile.

It wont really be worthwhile until it gets rooted and you get to unlock all the super-secret-uber-cool developer features like swap partitions and CPU scaling.
