Windows fans should wait for the end of the video.

I kinda figured everyone would realize that. Be sure to watch the ticker tape news at the bottom of their videos. It's often more funny than the video's subject.

Re: Apple responds to Windows 7 with new commericals
Well the thing with those commercials is that they work!
The proof?
We are talking about them right now!!
Apple has 4 campains on TV at the moment (iPod’s dancing silhouettes + iPhone’s there’s an app for that + harware ads + the notoriety ads -or- the hello I’m a Mac ads).
The «Hello I’m a Mac» ads are strictly for brand awareness. When they started, they were targeting the key differences between macs and (Windows)pcs in order to position the Mac brand. They made fun of pcs has being bland, accounting-driven and buggy - compared to the mac wich was cool, fun and easy going. But after (so)many years of ads, they have now shifted a bit and are centered only round pcs (pc this, pc that and what not).
The objective: Apple wants people to put all the wrongs of their computer experience down to the fact that they do not have a Mac; That if they have problems, if they have viruses, if they are frustrated - it’s because they are not using a Mac... That things would be perfect if they ran a Mac.
This is only a half-truth... Because if users have problems with there computers, it’s usually because of them and not the computer itself (my 2¢).Last edited by LeFrancoy; 10-27-2009 at 05:45 PM.

Re: Apple responds to Windows 7 with new commericals
Sweeping generalisations about why people buy Macs on this thread. "Because they want to look cool". Ignoring, I feel, all the hell most Window's users go through.
Here at TG, Windows users are much more computer-literate than the majority of computer users. You guys may be able to avoid problems with Windows, but a huge amount don't know how to. Mac isn't plagued with this problem. There are very few things you can do to/with a Mac that will cause problems for you.
Some people may buy them to look cool. I'm not sure why this matters, as even if they do they're in the hands of a more stable operating system. In the end, this is what matters. In Order to Dance

Re: Apple responds to Windows 7 with new commericals
From what my teacher said, Macs aren't very secure. Sure, you don't get many viruses but when you do, you can't stop it very effectively. That and they are easily hacked. I think the extra publicity could bring these issues to light.

Re: Apple responds to Windows 7 with new commericals
Since so few people use macs, few hackers create viruses for macs. Therefore there is no need for Mac uses to have anti virus protection. However, some people do make viruses for macs. If a mac user catches this virus there is no way to stop it. Oh and Macs are very very expensive
in comparison to PCs that can do a lot more.

Re: Apple responds to Windows 7 with new commericals
Macs not secure?? Easily hacked??
Don’t believe that!! I have never been hacked myself or never heard anyone I know (using MacOS) to have been hacked. Security updates on the Mac are regular (about every 2-3 months) and stable (I have never had a problem with one). All the maintenance on MacOS is done automatically (partitioning, backuping, indexing, memory/cache wiping, etc.) daily, weekly or monthly depending on the maintenance performed. So most users never actually have to do any maintenance at all.
And about secure... MacOS = Unix based OS.
If that is not secure, I don’t know what is??
In my 14 years on the Mac, I have never reinstalled the OS for any reason (or never formated the drive because of problems). Never had a virus and never been hacked.
But that’s just me...

Re: Apple responds to Windows 7 with new commericals
Mac/Unix/Linux users as a rule run as a "mortal" (ie. not root/Administrator) because this is a "best practice" that's been well-understood in the *nix arena for a long time. This model is called "least user access", or LUA.
Windows grew out of the single-user DOS environment, where one "owns" the whole machine. Even when NT brought the security model of VMS, most users avoided the potential LUA capability provided and ran as Administrator, eliminating one of the most important security benefits of the new operating system. This was encouraged by the poor application architectures supplied both by MS and 3rd parties, who were still coding in "DOS mode".
Only with the advent of Vista's UAC system was LUA enforced, and even then most users disabled it because they hated the constant prompts to see if a program was trying to usurp security. (I have mine enabled. I want to know when something is mucking with critical system settings.)
Proper security doesn't come from a magic OS. It comes from user understanding that safety requires attention, and that it's not free. You have to put effort into it, including dismissing those nagging dialogs when you want to change your daily desktop bling. (That bling could be masking dangerous malware.)Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?

Re: Apple responds to Windows 7 with new commericals
The question most people ask themselves when they're stuck between a Mac and a (Windows) PC is this:
Is the extra dough I'm plopping down for the Mac worth it?
If you can't justify it, then choose a Windows machine. If you can justify it, choose the Mac.
When it's all said and done it rarely matters for most end users. Quite a few MS products are available on the Mac and most if not all of the Adobe products are available for both OSes. You can move your work easily between each without fear of incompatibility.
--------
And yes, most of us here are above-average or even super users. Most of us have probably gone through our share of OSes, components, problems, headaches, and tech to know that we can make a informed decision and thus we can share in these experiences by blabbing over something like a Mac commercial.
