    Core i5-750 Processor + Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R Motherboard $200AR @ Fry's B&M

I really didn't believe it when I read it, but:

    Core i5-750 Processor + Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R Motherboard $200AR @ Fry's B&M

I assumed it would be for an OEM cpu without heatsink, but the guys that ran to Fry's say it is the Retail Box. I would go out and buy this even though I don't really need the upgrade the deal is so good. But the nearest Fry's is an 8-10 hour drive.

Here is a link to all their store locations.

If you want to check the parts on newegg for reviews:
GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD3R LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
    Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail

So it is a decent motherboard.

Nice catch Bamboo! I'd run down and buy one today if it weren't for...
    • No firewire
    • Older Realtek 888 chip instead of 889 (some issues with skype on 888)
    • I so want an i7!

But seriously, for $250, throw in a cheap gpu and HD and you have an outstanding media center.

Wow, very tempting. You basically get the mobo for free.

Curiously, why an i7 over i5? In which socket?

I'm going to build soon and am leaning i5 since it seems more than adequate, but maybe I'm missing something?

Really the the biggest difference comes down to chipset, either the p55 or x58, and what each offers. Besides that the price is a good jump up as well. Plus the hyperthreading.

And by the way I'm loving your sig Melee

The interesting wrinkle I didn't see coming is that i7 can be had with either chipset - i7 8xx in P55 or i7 9xx in X58. Is it worth $90 to upgrade from i5 750 to i7 860 when the primary improvement is hyperthreading? I primarily play games, so I'm thinking extra RAM is a better use of the money.

Thanks - borrowed them from another forum. I can't believe what they've (Activision/IW) done. I've been looking forward to MW2 for months, but I'm not touching it now. Unless they relent of course...
