2142 wont play HELP!!!!!!!!
Ok I just did a clean reinstall of XP home and installed 2142 and patch, played a bit and all was well. Today I go to start it and the DVD drive says there is no disc in it????.....I updated firmware,cleaned the disk....everything. I even put BF2 in the drive and it worked fine.....anyone got any idea at all????
You've heard of Tier 1 and Seal team Six right?
Were not those guys....were the 16TH.

I've had this happen for several reasons: Drive is broken and can't read this specific disk. You're trying to launch through something else than standard launch setup, have you edited games launch icon, as sometimes wrong resolution triggers this.
Reinstalling 2142 is annoying but surest way to fix this, though if that doesn't work then its bit more problematic.

did not modify the Icon at all, and I have googled the heck out of this and tried most the fixes.What torques me off is the fact that the game installed!!!....time to reinstall I guess.....sigh

yeah re-install is the way to go. i've had the same problem and re-installation worked

Right-click your BF2142 shortcut > Properties > Under "Compatibility" tab uncheck the checkbox for "Run this program in compatibility mode for..." > Apply > OK
Now try starting your game again. I had the same problem where I couldn't figure out why I kept getting that error message. I know that solved it for me.Acreo Aeneas

also another possible solution : dl no-cd patch from gamecopyworld. I bought the game, but can't be bothered leaving the DVD in my drive all the time so use this patch. As far as Im concerned there is nothing wrong with doing this, its silly to require the DVD anyway since all files are stored locally on your HDD.
It works in MP games, you just have to revert back to the old exe before running updates (which based on EAs history there might be 1 more update for the game before they just give up)
