Not necessarily. I have run my Vista64 with 2 gigs.
But as cheap as ram is, running with 4 gigs is easy.
And a couple of websites have mentioned that people from ram companies are reporting that the glut of stockpiles from over production is finally getting low, so memory prices are probably going to go up soon. If you need ram, start looking for deals soon.

Re: Windows 7 - The Mega Sticky

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but I didn't want to make a new one. Okay, I got my Windows 7 cds in yesterday. For some reason My computer won't let me install the 64-bit version. I am currently running Windows 7 - 32 bit (I installed it yesterday just to see Win 7, I was previously running XP-32 bit). I know my pc can handle it. I have a AMD Athlon 64 x2 processor. Which I thought the "64" meant that I could use 64-bit. Correct me if I'm wrong. When I put the cd in, it says my PC isn't compatible.

**Ok, I'm 100% sure my PC can run 64-bit. In my "Performance Information and Tools" page, It says my system is 64-bit capable.

I've tried booting from the Windows 7 64-bit cd, but all that comes up is the Windows 7 default background and my mouse pointer. That's it. After that, it just sits. Thanks in advance.

You'll have to do a fresh install, it will not upgrade for you from 32-bit to 64-bit. Back up all your stuff, reformat the drive, and put in the W7 disk.

Ok, I did a upgrade from 64bit Vista Ultimate to Win7 premium. All went super smooth!

    Overall impressed so far.

I am thinking of making a whole post about this once some more new gadgets come out, but this should get you started:

    This is kind of interesting:

AMD: No driver support for DirectX 9 Ati Radeon under Windows 7

I wonder why? Maybe trying to clean up their drivers? Getting more people to upgrade?

This is kind of interesting depending on how much you use Wi-FI

I'll have to say I did a fresh install of Win7 after wiping my hard drive. In under 30 minutes Win 7 was up and running and I had downloaded AVG and installed it. I hadn't even installed any drivers yet.
