HD stutter?
Hello all,
Just a quick question.
Whenever I use my PC. I can hear my HD spin then the screen freezes for few seconds. No mouse movement is registered when it happens and all inputs are not going through.
However, once thats over. The PC resumes its normal operation.
Any ideas on why this is happening?
I do have a SATA HD as my main and IDE as my 2nd HD.
Could it be possible that the IDE is sleeping then turns on periodically, causing this temporary stutter?
If so, how do I keep it from sleeping or fix this issue?
Thanks in advance.

Re: HD stutter?
I've run into this when something tries to access File Explorer (doing a browse to find a file to upload, or hitting win-E, etc) with a IDE drive in and sleeping, so maybe that's it. the Explorer window goes white for a bit while it spins up, etc, then finally shows the contents.
Never had it just plain stop all input, though.

Re: HD stutter?
Thanks for sheding some light into this. I guess it's the IDE HD thats causing this issue.
I wonder why SATA drives dont behave the same way as the IDE. Provided that it's a normal thing with IDE HDs. I dont seem to recall having problem in my old PC setup (all IDE).

Re: HD stutter?
Probably because you're constantly doing something that causes your SATA HDD to write or read. Thus it never goes into sleep. Otherwise, if you let it sit there staring at the screen, the HDD should wind down and enter a sleep state. I know mines does that when I'm just staring at a document for hours.
