A grandmother takes 40MB of halloween photos of her sisters nieces children. What is the easiest method for sending those photos to the brother of the children's uncle?

    Google Picasa
    Picasa Web Albums and Galleries

The first link is for the picasa photo organizer and also uploads photos to PicasaWeb (Google/Gmail account would be needed.) Once uploaded, the grandmother only needs to send the link to her gallery to her niece.

    Yes.

I second picasa. It is free (up to a certain storage limit) and can be set as public or private albums. Adding extra space is very cheap. The desktop picasa app is top notch. It is very user friendly and will automatically import images from devices and easily upload to a web album.

I put nearly all of my photos on picasa. Since it does store original sizes it also acts as a photo backup solution.

    Why not drop box?
You create a folder in dropbox and put the files you want in there.
Then when they sync to the cloud. I assume you want only family to have the photos. So you make the folder private.

You have the ability to send a link to that folder to as many people as you like. Now your family can just right click and copy the folder or single images to their desktop.

    Hope this helps.

Picasa. Then www.photopeach.com to show off the pictures. Photopeach links to your picasa gallery and you can add your own mp3. Here's a slideshow I made recently. http://photopeach.com/album/x2w1q7 if you click on the word source next to the title it links you back to picasa.

Not a problem and be prepared to hit the +rep button again.

Yes to both. With Picasa you have four choices when you upload to your web album:

    1) original size
    2) 1600 width
    3) 1024 width
    4) 640 width

Once the pictures are in your online albums, individual thumbnails will be created automatically so people can browse each of your photo albums without having to load every large image. When you want to see a specific one, they just click on it and whatever size image you uploaded will be opened. A user can then save the image for printing or print directly from their browser.

Here's an example from my own album: Winter Forest Desktop Wallpaper

Dropbox is nice, but it's more of a all-around quick backup tool rather than something dedicated for photos and graphics. It's something I haven't used often since I'm still tied to my UFD, but it's great service for students or working adults who have a lot of smaller files they sync between their computer at work and at home (and other devices in between).

but box.net is very easy to use and allows you to have vanity urls if you want them.
